URGENT! Stop Hillingdon Council Taking Community Libraries We Love

The Issue

Despite many local objections Hillingdon Council took the community owned land in Yiewsley.  The Council did not use Hillingdon People Magazine to say to residents they wanted to take the land away, so not everyone affected knew about it.

The Council have now put in a planning application to demolish Yiewsley Library and build a five-storey block of flats in its place.

They are also applying to build another five-storey building on the former Yiewsley swimming pool site, with a Library on the ground floor and a block of flats above.

The Council have kept this application quiet and only sent letters to the bare minimum of local homes.

Both these tower blocks will be out of place in an area consisting of conventional 2 storey residential/retail buildings and both tower blocks will overlook a public park.

See the planning application (76795/APP/2023/2503) here:

Hillingdon Council Planning Application

You can comment and object to the planning application there, until 10 October 2023.  It is important to do that if you can.

You can also sign our petition if you agree that we do not want these developments imposed on local residents.  The deadline for this will be the planning committee meeting so that we can send it in for them to see.  Date to be confirmed.

Hillingdon Council are also considering selling the Uxbridge Library building and moving the Library into the Civic Centre Middlesex Suite, losing yet another community facility.

What we do want is to be consulted properly about the future of these sites.
