Stop the illegal seizure of private property in Delmas, Haiti

Stop the illegal seizure of private property in Delmas, Haiti
The Issue
In Delmas, Haiti, I lost my family home of over 40 years. It was a place filled with countless memories, a sanctuary built by the hard work and dedication of my family. This loss wasn't due to a natural disaster or an economic downturn; it was the result of an illegal seizure by a public official. The mayor of Delmas, using a false claim that my property was declared for public utility, took away our cherished home.
The process to declare a property for public use in Haiti is clear and requires adherence to strict guidelines. Yet, the mayor chose to ignore these guidelines, exploiting his position for personal gain. This act not only tramples on my rights but sets a dangerous precedent, threatening the private properties of many other citizens in Delmas and beyond.
According to the Constitution of Haiti and international human rights laws, everyone has the right to peacefully enjoy their property. Any action to seize property must be done transparently and lawfully with clear justification. This was not the case with my home. No governmental authority verified, approved, or gave the green light for the mayor’s actions. This blatant violation showcases a severe disregard for the laws meant to protect citizens.
We call upon the Haitian Government and human rights organizations, both local and international, to investigate this matter urgently. The situation must be rectified not only for the sake of my family but to prevent such acts from happening again. Each day that passes, more people risk losing their homes under the guise of public utility.
By signing this petition, you are standing against corruption and for the protection of property rights in Haiti. Help us ensure that no other family had to endure what mine has. Hold those in power accountable and restore justice in Delmas.
