Require University of Guelph-Humber to Allow Paid and Online Placements

Require University of Guelph-Humber to Allow Paid and Online Placements
The Issue
We urge the University of Guelph-Humber to reverse its decision to ban online placements and allow paid placements for the Community Social Services program.
The current policy on unpaid internships at the University of Guelph-Humber unfairly benefits students with existing financial support or access to resources, further exacerbating inequity and socioeconomic disparities in the professional world. Unpaid internships perpetuate socioeconomic disparities by directly disadvantaging students who cannot afford to work for free. This disproportionately affects students who are marginalized and from lower-income backgrounds who lack the financial means to support themselves.
Additionally, banning online placements limits opportunities for many students, especially those with disabilities or caregiving responsibilities. Online placements can provide flexible options that accommodate diverse needs and circumstances.
