Letter to Remove Graham's Confederate Monument, Now.

The Issue

The confederate monument in Graham needs to be removed, now.  It is a representation of hatred and bigotry, was erected and blessed by the KKK, and stands as a reminder of the brutal bloodshed of our first Black constable, Wyatt Outlaw.

I was born and raised in East Burlington, went through Andrews Elementary, Broadview Middle and Cummings High schools.  I have lived in Graham most of my life. I find it disgusting that there are people supporting this racist, concrete symbol (claiming heritage and history) and that our county tax dollars are spent protecting it while neglecting and protecting the lives of all residents of Alamance County.

What is inspiring to me is that right now, there are so many more people who live here who do not support this monument and want to see it removed.  There are thousands of residents and neighbors in Alamance County who see this monument as a threat and terrible reminder of a gruesome history.  In one night we have collected over 200 signatures.  I hope this format helps us to grow that number.  We are aware there is a larger petition with folks who live in and around the state, but this one has been shared specifically for and with Alamance county residents and neighbors.  Let's keep this going yall.  Yall means ALL! Black Lives Matter!! Below is the letter I have written to the Alamance County Commissioners.
