Welcome! Let me introduce myself!

My name is Christine! I bought my first pair of roller skates in late 2020. I immediately fell in love with roller skating...I’m pretty much obsessed at this point! I love the sport and I love the community that comes along with it.

2020 was a crazy year. Many of us ended up with loads of free time on our hands...

And then recreational roller skating blew up!!!

My friends and I, armed with quads, made our way to the only public skate place in our area....the local skate park. The skateboarders and bikers welcomed us with open arms. It’s pretty fun skating there. It’s a beautiful park with ramps, bowls, trails, playground, rock climbing wall, 2 bike tracks and volleyball courts. Sounds like skaters paradise, right?

Going to the skate park has become an almost daily part of my routine....along with many other friends. Every time we go to the park we see quad skaters that we didn’t see before. It’s so amazing to see some many new roller skaters out there!!!

So what’s the problem???

Well....our local skate park wasn’t intended for roller skaters. It’s all good to use the ramps and all that fun stuff but most roller skaters are not using the park in that manner. Most of us skate round and round and often feel as though we are in the way. We like to flow. We like to dance. And we tend to like flat concrete. For the last few weeks there has been a skate school come out and teach classes. They bring their speaker and all the roller skaters take over an failrly large area in the middle of the park. Each time we have class the crowd gets bigger and bigger.

But what’s the solution?!?

I am proposing that we push for the addition of public outdoor roller rink at BREC Extreme Sports Park or someplace else :) We need a FRESH SLAB of flat concrete. We need all of the support we can get! BREC provides a safe place for nearly every other recreational sport and its time to add roller skating to that list!
