Demand of permanent Fortnite servers in India

Demand of permanent Fortnite servers in India
The Issue
The Problem
Since Fortnite Battle Royale launched in September 2017, Indian players have been among the most loyal and rapidly growing segment of its global fanbase. Yet, for nearly 9 years, we have been forced to play on distant servers — primarily the Middle East (Bahrain) region — suffering from 120–300 ms ping on a regular basis. This isn't just lag; it's a broken gameplay experience.
Why It Matters: The Numbers
- Fortnite has 650 million+ registered players globally as of 2025.
- India has one of the highest interest indices in Fortnite worldwide — 82.8% regional interest, higher than Indonesia (74.6%), worldwide average (68%), South Korea (63.2%), and Germany (53.6%).
- India's internet and gaming userbase has grown massively — yet Epic has added servers for smaller markets while ignoring 1.4 billion people.
- The infrastructure is clearly already in India (AWS Mumbai) — it was being used right now for Middle East fallback until the recent update in april.
We, the Indian Fortnite community, demand:
1. Permanent dedicated servers in Mumbai (India) with sub-50ms ping for Indian players.
2. An "India" region listed in the matchmaking settings, separate from Middle East.
3. A transparent timeline from Epic Games on when this will be implemented.
4. Servers to be kept permanently, not removed silently like in 2019–2020.
Our Ask Is Reasonable
Epic Games clearly has the technical capability AWS Mumbai infrastructure has already been used twice to serve Indian players. The Indian gaming market is booming, and Fortnite is losing players and revenue by providing an unplayable experience to one of the world's largest gaming demographics. Competing titles like PUBG Mobile set up Indian servers from day one. We deserve the same.
We are not asking for something new. We are asking Epic to stop taking away what they've already shown us is possible
If you're an Indian Fortnite player tired of 150ms ping, or a global player who believes fair access to gaming is a right . Let Epic Games hear us.
The existing 2018 petition stalled at ~4,687 signatures — with the Indian gaming community much larger now in 2026, a new push has a real chance of making an impact.
IF THIS DOESN'T WORK EITHER!!!
(THIS IS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE SPENT ANY AMOUNTS OF MONEY ON THE GAME)
Consumer Protection Route
Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, Indian players who pay for V-Bucks, Battle Passes, or any in-game purchases have legal standing as consumers. Epic Games charges Indian players the same price as players in regions with dedicated servers, yet delivers a fundamentally inferior product (150–300ms ping). This constitutes "deficiency in service" and "unfair trade practice" under Section 2(11) and 2(47) of the Act.
You can file a complaint with the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission for claims up to ₹50 lakhs this is free and requires no lawyer.
A class action-style complaint (multiple consumers filing together) under the Act carries much more weight and media value.
Precedent exists: Indian courts have ruled against digital service providers for not delivering promised service quality.
Competition Commission of India
The CCI is arguably the most powerful authority here. The angle: Epic Games operates servers in India for the Middle East region but refuses to allocate them to Indian consumers — this could be framed as discriminatory service delivery and denial of market access under Section 4 of the Competition Act, 2002.
Notably, Epic Games itself has successfully used the CCI against Google in India, so they are well aware of how the body works.
A formal complaint to CCI (free to file at cci.gov.in) can trigger an investigation. CCI has precedent in gaming — it investigated Google over discriminatory treatment of gaming platforms.
The argument: Epic holds a dominant position in the Battle Royale gaming market and is denying Indian users equal access.
