The Issue

In the heart of Chula Vista, soccer has emerged as more than just a sport; it's a thriving community pastime that fosters teamwork, discipline, and health. However, for many young soccer enthusiasts, the joy of playing is marred by unsafe conditions. I've personally witnessed several young players suffer preventable knee injuries on the worn-down multipurpose fields currently used for soccer. Chula Vista, being the second largest city in the county, does not have any dedicated soccer fields, a stark contrast to the 33 baseball fields that thrive within our city limits.

Despite high year-round participation in soccer, our top youth teams are forced to look outside Chula Vista to host essential games due to inadequate facilities. It's frustrating and disheartening to see our players deprived of an opportunity to flourish in a safe and nurturing environment in their own city, whereas neighboring areas provide adequate facilities for the sport they love.

There is an urgent need for the Chula Vista Parks and Recreation Department to address this imbalance by developing dedicated soccer fields within the city's multipurpose sites. Soccer, being a major sport with significant community interest and participation, deserves infrastructure that reflects its importance and growth. Such dedicated facilities would not only prevent further injuries but also promote a sense of pride and belonging among our young players and their families.

Let's put an end to the disparity in how our city's various sports are catered to. By signing this petition, we call upon the Chula Vista Parks and Recreation Department to prioritize the development of dedicated soccer fields. Together, we can ensure that our young athletes have the safe, quality facilities they need to succeed and that soccer can continue to be a source of community pride and development. Please sign this petition to support the development of dedicated soccer fields in Chula Vista.
