End Discrimination Against Families Who Partially or Choose Not to Vaccinate
The Issue
I’m a mother of a nine-month-old girl looking out for my child’s best interests and health. After thoughtful consideration, we have chosen to follow a partial vaccination schedule, selecting only the vaccines that we received as children. We believe many of these newer vaccines don’t receive adequate testing before being introduced to the public and decided it was best to give our daughter the shots that we know didn't cause us any long-term harm.
After this decision, we did not feel supported by our current pediatrician, who seemed to judge us every time we disagreed with her recommendations and saw me as a defiant individual instead of a mother looking out for my child's best interest.
So I began searching for a new provider, received several recommendations from other parents, and started calling local offices. The message I received was loud and clear: unless we completely complied with the full CDC vaccine schedule, my daughter would not be welcome.
No family should be punished for making a conscientious healthcare decision, especially one made with the best interest of their child in mind.
None asked about my child’s age, medical history, insurance, or any other aspect of her health. If we didn’t comply with the CDC, she would not be welcome as a patient.
Shockingly, this is not illegal. That’s why I’m asking Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to do what he can to ensure no family can be discriminated against based on their personal vaccine decisions.
While we recognize the importance of public health and the role that vaccines have played in combating serious diseases, we also believe in the fundamental right of parents to make informed medical decisions for their children without fear of discrimination, coercion, or retaliation.
Children are being denied access to primary care services due to their vaccine status. A 2020 study from the American Medical Association found that over half of pediatricians' offices had policies refusing to treat children whose parents refused certain vaccines. This kind of discrimination is not against the law.
Families are being removed from pediatric practices or refused medical treatment. Parents are being shamed or pressured into compliance rather than being respected as decision-makers.
These practices disproportionately impact families with legitimate concerns – whether medical, religious, or philosophical –and violate the principles of informed consent, medical privacy, and equal access to care.
If you believe that medical freedom and bodily autonomy are core human rights, please sign this petition to support fairness, inclusivity, and medical rights for all families –regardless of their vaccination choices.
