End Anti-Trans Legislations

End Anti-Trans Legislations

The Issue

This year, eighty-two anti-trans legislations have been passed in the United States of America, the highest amount in history. The issues the trans community has faced over the years are numerous, and the battle for basic human rights is far from over, as the new legislations have made clear. In South Carolina, a legislation recently passed means that trans children under the age of eighteen are unable to receive essential medical care, and it requires teachers to out trans students to potentially transphobic parents, creating a school environment in which they are unable to be themselves. A legislation in Texas prohibits the distribution of puberty blockers to trans individuals under the age of eighteen. Other legislations include a ban on transgender sportspeople competing. All are designed to isolate the trans community, and some of these hateful acts are even prioritised over COVID-19 response and relief.
The government and the governments of the states have to understand that what they are doing is harming people. They are blinded by intolerance, and causing devastating amounts of harm to a group of people who have had to fight long and hard for rights that should be afforded to every human, every living creature, as well as ignoring huge issues in their fight against an innocent community who just want to live life as themselves without having to face hatred, discrimination and violence for it.
While this is allowed to continue, hatred and discrimination will take priority over world-wide issues, and will continue to harm and destroy the lives of so many people. If we make a stand, if we say enough is enough, we are winning back the most basic of human rights for the trans community, for our future children and for generations to come.
