Make crimes against children a federal offense

The Issue

Sexual predators seem to slip through the cracks in our legal system, facing leniency time and again. I've witnessed how the discrepancy in state laws allows for dangerous offenders to be released back into our communities, only for them to re-offend. In blue states, where the penalties aren’t as stringent, these predators often find a loophole, getting out and committing these heinous crimes repeatedly. This is why I'm calling for urgent reform.

Currently, the decision on how to prosecute these offenders is left to each individual state. While some impose harsh sentences, others are more lenient, providing a dangerous environment where predators can once again harm our most vulnerable—our children. Did you know that the recidivism rate for these criminals stands at a chilling 13%-16% within the first five years of release, soaring to 45% after five years? This highlights the terrifying reality that no child is truly safe unless we change our approach.

We need to establish a federal mandate: the first crime against a child should be a federal crime, met with a mandatory natural life sentence. If the victim is under the age of 12, there should be an instant death penalty, with no less than a life term as the alternative or chemical castration. Zero tolerance should mean zero opportunity to re-offend.

This isn’t just a matter of justice—it’s a matter of protecting our children’s future. By implementing federal legislation, we will create a consistent, non-negotiable standard across all states, ensuring that no predator can escape harsh consequences due to jurisdictional gaps.

We cannot allow state lines, or a "Megan's Law" although great, to determine the safety of our children. By uniting under a federal law, we prevent these offenders from exploiting more lenient states and provide peace of mind to families nationwide.

Please join me in urging Congress to take this vital step. Your signature could be the catalyst for change, ensuring justice is swift, certain, and uniform. Let’s come together to protect our children and ensure a safer future for all.
