THE BLC PETITION: A CALL TO ACTION

Black America, Our Time is Now.

For generations, we have fought for justice, equality, and self-determination. As protests rise and demands for reform grow louder, one truth remains clear: we must build our own systems, institutions, and economic power. We are calling on Black Americans from all walks of life—including grassroots organizers, movement leaders, professionals, experts, and institutions—grassroots organizers, business owners, educators, political leaders, artists, students, and everyday people—to unite and forge a new path forward. This petition is not just a statement; it is laying the foundation for generational transformation. By signing, you are affirming the need for a unified effort to create the economic, political, and social infrastructure necessary for Black empowerment. This campaign seeks to lay the groundwork for the formation of the Black Leadership Coalition (BLC)—a governing body designed to ensure long-term sustainability and accountability for our collective future.

Why We Must Act Now

Throughout history, Black Americans have built our own institutions—thriving against all odds, from the early foundations laid during slavery, such as the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church founded by Richard Allen, which was not just a religious institution, but a hub for economic empowerment, education, and political mobilization, to Reconstruction, Black Wall Street, and the Civil Rights Movement. Many of these institutions would not have existed without Black ingenuity, financial backing, and collective resource pooling, which have long been a cornerstone of our resilience and self-determination. Yet, today, we continue to attempt to leverage power we do not have in an ecosystem that we do not dominate or control. These ecosystems limit our autonomy and collective power.

At the same time, modern challenges threaten our well-being in ways that demand urgent action. Black communities face increasing displacement due to rising housing costs and climate-driven gentrification, while food insecurity and lack of access to clean water continue to disproportionately impact our people. Many of our neighborhoods are still subjected to industrial pollution, unsafe living conditions, limited access to healthcare, and violence—not because of coincidence, but because of long-standing neglect and structural barriers. Without ownership over our own infrastructure, we remain vulnerable to forces beyond our control.

  • Black Americans hold only 2.6% of the nation’s wealth, while white Americans hold over 85% (Brookings Institute, 2020).
  • Even Black families who reach the top income brackets are more likely to fall out of them than their white counterparts.
  • Our schools remain underfunded, our communities over-policed, and our leaders often disconnected from the needs of the people.

Overcoming Doubt & Embracing Systems Thinking

We recognize the doubts some may have about the feasibility of uniting such a large and diverse group as Black Americans. Many have been conditioned to believe that deep divisions, ideological differences, and historical setbacks make collective progress impossible. However, history tells a different story.

Our ancestors, though coming from different lands, languages, and customs, unified under the harshest of conditions to resist oppression and build new futures. As showcased earlier, we have proven time and time again that when we come together strategically, we win. In fact, we all win because a win for Black Americans has always meant a win for everyone.

This is why we embrace systems thinking—an approach that helps us break free from cycles of burnout, fragmentation, and under-resourcing. We recognize the barriers many Black organizers and leaders face, including limited resources, competing agendas, and the emotional toll of fighting for change. Organizers and movement leaders: Your role is critical. You mobilize, strategize, and unify efforts across industries and communities. But too often, we are forced to operate in silos—competing for the same funding, visibility, and influence. This division weakens us. The emotional toll of movement work, combined with limited resources and competing agendas, makes collaboration even more necessary. Instead of working apart, we must coordinate, collaborate, and build an ecosystem that serves the masses—not just the few.

This campaign is not about adding another fragmented effort—a systems approach acknowledges that our struggles—and our solutions—are interconnected. Fragmented efforts and individual successes have not translated into progress for the masses. To create real change, we must coordinate, collaborate, and build structures that sustain our collective power.

Our Vision: Building Our Own Systems

This movement is about collective self-determination—Black Americans taking charge of our destiny by creating institutions and networks that serve our people. We believe in:

  • Economic Empowerment – Supporting Black-owned banks, businesses, and industries to reclaim our financial independence. This includes developing cooperative economic models, controlling and developing our own supply chains, and creating sustainable Black-led financial and trade networks. We will establish Black-owned industrial sectors, cooperative housing models, and reinvestment funds that build community wealth over generations.
  • Political Unification – Organizing as a voting bloc and demanding policies that protect our interests regardless of party lines. This also includes developing political education pipelines, training future Black policymakers, and establishing lobbying groups that serve our collective interests.
  • Community-Led Safety & Justice – Redefining public safety by creating Black-led security models and mental health-informed crisis response teams.
  • Education Reform – Developing a national Black-centered curriculum to ensure our children are taught the truth about our history and equipped for global leadership.
  • Media & Cultural Representation – Controlling our narrative through Black-owned production companies, film studios, and digital platforms.
  • Health & Wellness – Ensuring holistic, culturally competent healthcare that prioritizes Black mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
  • Accountable Leadership & Democratic Governance – Holding Black leaders, influencers, and decision-makers accountable to the people, not just their personal or political interests. We will establish a democratic process for leadership accountability and community control over our future. This includes public reporting mechanisms, community-led oversight committees, and ethical leadership councils to ensure transparency and prevent the failures of past movements.
  • Black Technological & Digital Infrastructure – Establishing Black-owned digital platforms, secure data networks, and tech enterprises to protect our financial, communication, and social systems from external control. This includes investing in Black cybersecurity, developing AI and blockchain solutions, and ensuring digital literacy in our communities.

This coalition will be formed through the National Black Leadership Conference, where Black community members, grassroots organizations, institutions, professionals, and experts will not only shape our collective strategy but also develop policy frameworks, governance models, and sustainable cultural and economic structures using a systems thinking approach. You don’t have to be an activist to make a difference. Your expertise is power. Whether you are an educator, policymaker, entrepreneur, technologist, health expert, or legal professional, you hold knowledge that can shape the future of Black America. This is not just about activism—it’s about applying our skills where they are needed most. We need your insight to develop policies, build financial structures, secure technological independence, and create sustainable systems that work for us. Professionals across industries will play a pivotal role in not just discussing solutions—but implementing them. This will not just be a discussion space but an action-oriented summit where strategic decisions will be made to ensure follow-through and accountability.
