Mandate Buccolam (Midazolam) Training in After-School and Holiday Clubs

Mandate Buccolam (Midazolam) Training in After-School and Holiday Clubs

The Issue

My daughter, a bright and exceptional child, requires Buccolam (Midazolam) for her medical condition. However, we have found that the opportunities often advocated as accessible for all are closed off due to lack of training or funding. This has led to my daughter developing self-hate speech about herself - a heartbreaking situation no parent should witness. This exclusion is not only affecting my child but also countless others who might be feeling the same way.

Buccolam is used in emergency situations to control prolonged, acute convulsive seizures in infants, toddlers, children and adolescents. Despite its importance in ensuring the safety of some children during these critical moments, there's an alarming lack of training on how to administer it within after-school clubs and holiday clubs.

This lack of knowledge can lead to discrimination against children who require this medication as they may be denied participation due to potential health risks. It's time we end this stigma surrounding our children's health needs by making Buccolam training easily accessible within these institutions.

By doing so, we can ensure that all children have equal opportunities to participate in activities without fear or discrimination based on their health needs. We call upon local authorities and education departments across the country to mandate Buccolam training within after-school clubs and holiday clubs.

Please sign this petition if you believe every child deserves equal access regardless of their medical requirements. Together we can make a difference!
