We want Barrow upon Soar Post Office back

The Issue

Until 2016, Barrow upon Soar had a post office branch, open 6 days a week. Then it was closed and a "New Local Style Post Office” opened across the road. New Local Style Post Offices were meant to "help safeguard Post Office services in the local community for the longer term and provide an improved and more modern service". Since then Barrow has had on/off Post Office services, culminating in the closure of the Post Office at the Filling Station on 13th August 2021.

Post Office Ltd. have recently said that they did not receive any interest in the opportunity to run Barrow Upon Soar Post Office, despite  them visiting the area and discussing the opportunity with local retailers. Is it any surprise after the Horizon scandal which led to the suspension and  termination of subpostmasters’ contracts, and prosecution and conviction of subpostmasters?

We now have the prospect of a Post Office Van coming to the village once a week for a couple of hours. While this is a welcome short term measure to provide these essential services, two hours a week cannot possibly be sufficient for a village the size of Barrow upon Soar.

What Barrow needs is a proper post office, open 6 days a week, like the ones in similar sized nearby villages.
