This petition is a call for President Biden to honor his legacy by securing the Democratic nomination and then declining it, thereby creating space for a new leader who can bring renewed vigor to directly confronting the following challenges to ensure a secure, united, and progressive future for all.  

In this pivotal moment, we deeply thank President Joe Biden for his unwavering service amid historic challenges. His dedication has steered us through turbulent times.

Yet, as we face the future, our democracy craves renewed leadership—leadership that embodies vitality, insight, and a forward-thinking vision. We acknowledge the respect and loyalty shown by leaders within the Democratic Party with executive success such as Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer, and J.B. Pritzker, to name a few, who have stepped back to honor President Biden's tenure. Now, we face a critical decision point.

We propose a bold transition: post-nomination, we urge President Biden to consider the broader picture, allowing his delegates the freedom to align with new leadership.  We appeal to the Democratic National Committee to facilitate an inclusive and transparent process, reflecting the party's diverse voices and enabling a fresh, unifying candidate to emerge that is prepared to confront our era's defining challenges: 

• Uniting a Divided Nation: President Biden's age and the controversies surrounding Hunter Biden, regardless of their merit, have become focal points of division. These issues distract from vital national conversations and fuel divisiveness at a time when unity is desperately needed.
• Blocking Trump's Return: Donald Trump is advocating for dangerous policies, including encouraging foreign aggression against NATO members.  This alone poses an existential threat to our democracy and global stability.  The former president is embroiled in legal challenges including conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government relating to his attempt to overthrow the 2020 election and the obstruction & willful retention of national defense information.  That he is seeking re-election underscores the urgency for leadership that can safeguard our democratic institutions.  
• Safeguarding Rights and Equality: The rights and safety of women, the LGBTQ community, and BIPOC Americans are under threat. We need a leader who will unequivocally advocate for the rights and safety of all Americans.
• Tackling Climate Change for Our Children: Immediate, bold action on climate change is non-negotiable. Our future depends on leadership that prioritizes environmental sustainability and is committed to protecting our planet for future generations.
• The Supreme Court's Future: Maintaining control of the White House is crucial in balancing the Supreme Court to ensure it reflects the diverse views and core values of justice and inclusivity.
• Intensify Efforts Against Gun Violence: Respond to the alarming increase in mass shootings with definitive gun control measures, protecting our communities and curbing further tragedies.
• Counteract Extremist Threats: Stand firm against extremism and the rhetoric endangering our democracy and global peace. We need a president who can counteract the threats posed by individuals undermining our democratic norms and international stability.
