I started playing Yo-kai Watch with Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits at Christmas 2017. Time has passed, and I'm still playing my save file that I started almost 10 years ago.
In 2018, I bought the first Yo-kai Watch game for the 3DS, and in 2024, I bought Yo-kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters and transferred my 2017 save file to this new cartridge. And in 2025, thanks to an incredible stroke of luck, I found a sealed copy of Yo-kai Watch 3 for 15 euros at a flea market.
Today, in 2026, to play Yo-kai Watch legally and properly, you either have to go back to your Nintendo 3DS and continue enjoying games released almost 10 years ago outside of Japan, or you have to hack your Nintendo Switch and install language patch mods.
I don't know about you, but personally, if I can only play a game on a hacked Switch with a translation mod, I might as well download it. If I buy a game, it's to play it on all my consoles, not just the modified one.
Since Yo-kai Watch 3 was released in 2018 on the 3DS, we haven't had any Yo-kai Watch console games released outside of Japan.
A Yo-kai Watch 1 remake on Switch? Only in Japan! Yo-kai Watch 4? Same thing, obviously.
Today, if you were a Yo-kai Watch fan back in the day, there are two legal options: you have to be content with the 3DS games, or forget about the franchise forever.
Level 5 does nothing for the Yo-kai Watch community outside of Japan, and they have the nerve to complain about fan projects! It's shameful.
I hope this will change someday, as a Yo-kai Watch fan for almost 10 years.
Played the yo-kai watch games, watched the anime, and had some of the toys as a kid. Recently starting to get back into the games. I was lucky enough to have got Yo-Kai watch 3 before the shutdown of the 3ds eshop. But can't say the same for the rest of the games. It would mean the world for ports of the older games on modern gaming systems and for localization of newer titles.
