The Sports Core was purchased by the people of the Village of Oak Brook to be a passive amenity for the people of the Village. The facilities that are part of it have always been meant to be low-key, unobtrusive, respectful of the land and the old-growth oak forests; places for you to walk, ride your bike, play with your kids, enjoy the sunset.... The Club House was never meant to be a big, fancy business that would compete with other businesses in the village. It was meant for the Valentine Dinners we had, the Hallowe'en parties for the kids, the Hawai'ian night around the pool, the "Opening Party" each year...Mother's Day brunch, Father's Day cook-out, swim team banquet, tennis team party, Home owners association meetings and the like. We fit in things like wedding and baby showers for the convenience of local folks, the village employee awards dinner, and so many other things that allowed us to get to know one another as friends and neighbors. There are those who get dollar-signs in their eyes when they see this gorgeous property, but they need to take those dreams elsewhere. This land is for you to enjoy - no matter which corner of the village is home for you. YOU are the property owner here and YOU own the Sports Core!!!
Beyul has been a welcome addition to our community. My family looks forward to every visit we make up there and I’m proud to support young business owners making an inclusive and creative endeavor that enriches the roaring fork valley.
Hello,
My name is David Brown and I am signing in support of the improvements, as well as the overall mission of Beyul Retreat! I live in Emma and have been living in the valley for much of the past decade. One of the most significant reasons that I choose to live here is because of the community and creatively stimulating atmosphere that the folks at Beyul foster. When I think of Beyul, I think of the peace of nature and the renewal it offers, countless thought-provoking discussions I've had in the lodge and in the sauna, and impactful moments I've had participating in panel discussions, yoga classes and holistic programs. I think of it as analogous to Black Mountain College, a hub for interdisciplinary learning, artistic experimentation, and artistic expression in the early twentieth century, visited by luminaries of the age such as John Cage, Buckminster Fuller and Willem de Kooning. Campuses such as Black Mountain College and Beyul Retreat benefit culture at large in ways that are hard to quantify, but the absence of which would be devastating. Since they opened their doors, I have gone to Beyul regularly for artist retreats, a poetry workshop, discussions with some renowned panelists, an astronomy course, and, of course, renewal in nature. Last year, I had a particularly impactful experience there as my bandmates and I began a year-long creative sabbatical. With a significant discount, Beyul offered one of their cabins, which I used for two weeks to compose a new album. While I understand that some neighbors in the upper Frying Pan may not embrace changes in their quiet corner of the county, I'd request the commissioners consider the benefits to valley residents and the wider world that Beyul is bringing, especially to those of us with vocations in the arts and humanities. There is truly nowhere else in western Colorado that I've found offering the same degree of access to nature, holistic retreats and thoughtful gatherings that Beyul provides.

I'd like to phrase my comment in the form of a thank you. Through one of the largest and most pivotal transitions in my life, Beyul was able to offer a space of complete acceptance , encouragement and genuine hospitality. Within the atmosphere that has been created at Beyul, people have an opportunity to make lifelong connections with other's whom desire a happier and healthier life. Beyul has in fact changed my life in the best way possible. Thank you Beyul.

Beyul is a special community gathering place and some of my most memorable experiences in the valley took place at events there. After partnering with Beyul for a music retreat several years ago, it is clear to me that their mission and values align with our community and it is very important to support their work.
As a Pitkin county homeowner and business owner, I know the challenges of operating a business in a rural seasonal location. Beyul is an institution with the mission to serve the community and achieves this through being a good neighbor.
Beyul is a true gem of Pitkin County that provides a collective good for the residents and visitors, creating a strong sense of community regardless of zip code or pay grade. What a simple decision the commissioners have to make to approve this community space!
The Beyul community has uplifted my mental health and overall well-being so much! It’s a place that fosters a genuine sense of belonging, where people come together to connect, grow, and be inspired by thought leaders, meaningful events, and transformative experiences. This is a space where everyone is supported, appreciated and embraced. It has reminded me time and time again of the power of community and the importance of shared purpose in creating a better future!
Sounds like these young locals are eager to sustain their business and satisfy the requirements necessary. I fear if they are pushed out it makes way for a corporate undertaking which will truly change everything.
