Watershed protection is a critical environmental issue aimed at safeguarding the quality and quantity of water resources within a specific area. With the growing threat of pollution, deforestation, and climate change, efforts to preserve the health of watersheds have gained prominence globally. Petitions under this topic advocate for measures such as preventing industrial contamination, conserving natural habitats, and promoting sustainable water management practices.
One notable petition calls for the preservation of a local river ecosystem by halting a proposed development project that could harm the watershed. Another petition highlights the importance of protecting wetlands as vital components of watershed health, citing research on their role in filtering pollutants and reducing flooding risks.
Join the movement to support watershed protection initiatives and ensure the sustainability of our water sources for future generations. Your involvement can make a tangible difference in preserving the integrity of these vital ecosystems.
I have visited this area before and walked through the current construction today.
Unless there is good and unselfish reason to contend against this well established community project they’ve been a unique and value add to Greensboro over a decade. What good reason is there it should not be supported? I doubt there is.
Respectfully William Styers
Creek buffers are good for people, water, and wildlife. Natural creeks with an intact riparian area around them are beautiful gifts given to our community only once, either we protect them or they are gone forever, like the concrete channels of much of Southern California south of us.
My maternal grandparents are buried in this cemetery. I think the city could easily find another place to put a solar farm. One that doesn't require cutting down mature trees (which help to cool the planet)!
I have 6 family members buried near the north end of the cemetery. Their burial locations are beautiful and it’s very peaceful when we visit. It’s true the past owner let the cemetery fall into disrepair and that it could use some road upgrades, but to allow this to move forward is ridiculous. The land is a cemetery and should be respected as such. Does anyone have any idea of the amount of construction traffic required to fully develop a 20 acre solar farm? Bulldozers, backhoes, cement trucks, equipment deliveries, construction workers. You can forget about having a peaceful setting for your loved ones for well over a year. Solar farms belong in industrial or rural areas, not in a cemetery.
I have family buried at Mount Hope. The old trees surrounding the area are beautiful. The cemetery has been poorly maintained. It would be further insult to chop down the trees and put in an ugly Solar farm.
I love this little town. Lived here for 34 years. Raised my children here and now my grandchildren are in the school. This is way too close to the school. Only .2 tenths of a mile away. We only have an all volunteer fire department with NO fire hydrants in town.
I support the petition to restrict battery storage parks in small rural towns and sensitive watershed areas. While renewable energy is important, these facilities pose serious risks — including fire hazards, chemical leaks, and environmental damage. Small towns often lack the resources to properly assess, monitor, and respond to the complex challenges these facilities may bring. Clear and enforceable bylaws are necessary to ensure that decisions about land use reflect the interests of the people who live there — not just the profit-driven goals of outside developers.
We moved our family away from the big bustling towns that were from. We came here for a Serenity and peace of the small town environment. The safety of our children and my children's future children. Having the Battery storage in our town would not only disrupt our peace. It will cause harm to our wildlife and reptiles that are on the verge of Extinction. We don't want it here. The people don't want it. Keep our small town beautiful and free from the danger of having battery storage.
