Victories in Violence

As an autistic young adult, I know from personal experience it is hard enough to live in a systemically ableist society. The abuse and neglect described here is utterly inhuman. Ty is my cousin, one of the most kind-hearted people I know, and he is worthy of your respect and care. He is a human being, not a statistic. This was preventable. It doesn't take blind trust of either side to do a thorough investigation. No matter what you believe, inhibiting and postponing is not protecting against defamation or playing the victim, it is enabling it. The complete lack of response by the people whose job it is to keep our students safe speaks volumes. It is not too late to do the right thing. People have already been hurt; that is undeniable and cannot be reversed. But that does NOT mean willfully ignoring the now limited but still very much nonzero action that CAN still be taken to conduct that investigation, take action to prevent further abuse, hold the known abuser(s) accountable, and ensure adequate medical treatment for the victim(s) to the fullest extent possible. To those who make the decision: whatever you decide, treat this like the future of someone you love depends on it. Because that's exactly what it is to his family. And someday it could be you.

This is important - especially in terms of supporting accessibility. However, I do think it is sad that some may use this option because they are afraid to attend a municipal meeting - the fear to participate because of threatening behavior is not freedom. That is terrorism, and it is sad to see it impacting the freedom of a democratic political institution. As a community, we need to stand up to this and assert the right of all citizens to safety as active members in their own communities! I value everyone's right to safely engage in the political process.

I just want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Owen. They saved my life when I was down and out and without them I don't know where I'd be today. I'm proud to sign this petition.

As someone who is disabled, an POC, and female, and has been unfairly denied accommodations too many times, I know too much what a situation like this is like. I believe that even if it’s obvious (you wear braces, walk with a limp, or use a wheelchair), some people just look at you, and the color of your skin and turn you down, thinking you’re “faking” it. It’s disgusting and needs to stop! I would be one that could only attend a percentage of the meetings due to transportation issues (mainly restricted to the bus), not being able to out in certain types of weather, medical condition flares, and other restrictions related to my medical issues.) Unfair accommodations such as this, and retaliation on top of it, are causing us to grow more and more apart. And that’s not how it should be.

THS is no newbie to violence and have a horrible way of handling these behaviors. As alumni of THS I myself personally witnessed multiple incidents that occurred and ended up with students having life threatening injuries. Do better KISD & THS!

Is true Katy ISD doesn’t have strong implementations against violence ! Kids need to know that there will be big consequences against violence, my kid at elementary level suffered an attacked from a student and this was the 4th time ! This student had attacked other kids at school and the school hasn’t done nothing to keep this boy away.

I watched the video and was thoroughly disgusted with the way this girl was violently assaulted. Further more the teacher did not even attempt to de-escalate the situation. The teacher made no attempt to protect this girl. The teacher didn't even say "STOP". Like that is ridiculous. This young man is so much bigger than this girl. I am certain that had the teacher made an attempt to stop this altercation then this girl would not have been hurt. Our children are suppose to be in a safe environment. Taylor High School and Katy ISD officials need to take action now.

So sorry for the girl that when through what she went through. No one deserves to be abused like that. That boy should be punished as an adult as this was not his first assult on a girl. He needs to be expelled from school. If these abusers are not punished, what does it tell all the victims when they are being abused. Victims need our help, our voice and bring justice to them. How many of our children (both male and female alike) has be be abused for it to be enough? The school, Principal, Vice Principal, and the teacher in the classroom, all has be be taken accountable for what happened to this poor girl. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

My niece buried her beautiful 13 year old son 6 months ago due to suicide from bullying daily at school. Everyone knew. No one did anything. His parents did everything right but the school blamed their son. They put him in counseling, put him on meds, even tried to change schools. The school somehow protected his bully. Why you might ask? His mom was/is a long time employee for the school district. Who holds school districts accountable? We have to do better!
