One petition gaining traction advocates for increased affordable housing initiatives, citing staggering statistics on the rising homelessness rates in cities. PHC is more than just a resource hub -- it's a lifeline. I've seen how PHC helps homeless and marginalized individuals access shelter, legal aid, harm reduction services, and more. PHC meets people where they're at, connecting them to the tools they need to stabilize.
As a nurse committed to the health and well-being of my community, I urge the department to reconsider. Public health isn't limited to clinics and hospitals -- it's about access to basic needs, equity, and support. PHC delivers all of this with dignity and compassion, which is why I proudly volunteer with this org.
Defunding PHC would strip away a critical safety net for many people. Once again, please reconsider.
Working for the SF-Marin Food Bank, I've seen first hand the importance of PHC first hand as an invaluable resource for those in our community who need it most.
Please reconsider defunding PCH, this program is vital to those battling homelessness and marginalized people. I have been doing outreach at these events for over 6 years. The feedback I get from consumers is a huge thanks for the services we provide and that the information is very helpful.
Thank you, W. Travis Hill
As a former homeless woman, when I first heard about the things they could do to help - I thought it was a pipe dream someone made up!! But no, it was true! Being able to connect with the DMV, optometrists, dentists, health services (both mental and physical health!) and so much more.. and the volunteers rock!! It's why I've volunteered at least twice to the bigger PHC's, since finally getting myself into housing.. and I want to volunteer at more of their bigger PHC's, that they have at the Bill Graham Auditorium, every 3 months!!
People who have never experienced what homelessness is like, can maybe casually dismiss the homeless they pass on the streets, or be mad that those with mental disorders or drug addiction, who will set up "camp" close to their homes.. but that's what's wrong with how our country is turning out!! The Rich will keep taking everything from the rest of us in this country, and blame those who are homeless, people of color, people with mental disorders.. but it's the greedy people who run the places we end up working for, but never making enough to be able to take a sick day or two, when we need - mostly because we can't afford our rents, and being able to eat something besides Top Ramen, 7 days a week, for 2 meals or more -daily!!!
The politicians who claim.they love our country, while scorning those they've kicked to the curb, because their underpaid and overwhelmingly over work, and yet the big companies in US are constantly giving CEOs huge bonuses, while laying of 10% to 1/3rd of their work force so some greedy investors can make record profits, year after year..
Fight the people making us all one paycheck away from becoming homeless (again!?)
We use to be able to have blue collar or laborers in this country, be able to afford rent, and to feed themselves and their kids!! But now?? Our middle class is non-existant, and too many people/kids/ seniors/ etc.get to go to bed hungry, night after night..
The City maybe facing a deficit, but why take it out on the most vul
This is such an important organization. They do so much for the community here. They are a lifeline to the underserved homeless and misunderstood in this area. Until this problem is solved by those we appointed to solve this while in office, these people were keeping the people who need it fed , warm, and as healthy as possible. Don’t let the powers that be cut them off.
I've resided in the City of Ojai and now in Oak View, I worked with the local unhoused population for some 30 years. This project is long overdue. Being OjaiStrong should include all, all the time.
This is so important to support! Let’s show up for people who need help now more than ever as Ojai housing prices rise to levels that are unattainable to most. They are here already trying to stay in a community that they helped build and are as much a part of it as anyone. They deserve our support and love. This is a great way to try and combat the increasing level of homelessness in this country. We cannot keep pushing them further and further away.
I’m an Ojai city resident, and support this project moving forward on the Public Works site. We need to make space for folks in our community in close proximity to city services. Yes to caring for neighbors, and no to NIMBYism. Thank you.
I feel strongly about supporting this grant funded project for Ojai's homeless population especially because of the astounding resistance from Ojai locals who all enjoy a home and a pillow to lay their heads on at night. How can anyone want to refuse that to their homeless neighbors??? I want my voice to be heard, as an Ojai resident, I want those without a home to have a safe place to call their own!!!
I personally work hard along with help of my Church to give out cold water lunches clothes etc.and when talking to so many I know for a fact the use the showers for hope Please let's keep hope alive and showers running 🙏🏽🙏🏽
