Rescued a kid my son had been playing with, just yards offshore on a visit to Jax. My son is a strong swimmer and knew what to do and stayed calm in a flash rip. The other boy was in real trouble… worst day of my life- swimming past my son to help the other kid. Lifeguards never get enough pay or credit. Watch Bondi rescue- we should be that well staffed too.

Please, not another Toll Brothers development. What they put up on the corner of Hemby and Providence reminds me of Levittown. They ARE NOT custom home builders, but cookie cutter builders that build boxes with no character. They have no concern at all to as to the character of Weddington. They strip mine for profit, leaving residents with our town changed forever. They clear cut and excavate with NO REGARD, only for profit. In another time we would call them carpetbaggers.

I’m from a swim team family; siblings won and held records in their appropriate age and sex categories. To think that my sister would be denied this opportunity today should a boy take her place is beyond common sense. Water is fluid, Sex is not.

As a woman who is a USMS swimmer, it is very disheartening to know that the USMS has allowed and continues to allow this. It is not just hormones that makes men different. Men have larger heart and lung sizes, higher bone density, different hip/bone angle. Men also have higher hemoglobin levels. Hemoglobin is the red blood cell that delivers oxygen to muscles (I.e. less muscle fatigue when compared to a woman that has a lower level of this particular blood cells). All of which contribute to a male having an advantage in ANY sport over a woman. USMS please change your policies.

There are many many services on the chopping block this year, including sports, librarians, afterschool programs, etc. every signature matters. Every voice matters. We need to save the things that make public education worthwhile.

I'm a former alumni of Oakland high School class of 2001 and thanks to my teacher Ms strong I learned to get over my fear of water and actually be a very good swimmer and now I'm teaching my child how to swim. My point is having this pool open in the community enriches everyone lives and is a benefit for students and the community in general. Please reopen the pool.

This pool not only is used by hundreds in the community, but has supported thousands of Oakland High students over the years. It is not exaggeration to say that thousands of kids only know how to swim because of this pool. It's an easy fix and not a huge investment which will have a great impact!

Swimming is SO good for the minds & bodies of Oakland residents. Water fitness works for many body sizes and abilities. Swimming has been the single most important part of my path back to health after disability. With Oakland public pools limited during COVID I finally gave in and joined a private gym for the pool - but that is a privilege many don’t have. Please make this pool accessible again. There are so few pools for so many people, and it’s quite far to travel to other pools. We’re so close to having this valuable youth & community health amenity. Please figure out how to make it happen!

Not everyone in Oakland has easy access to spaces to learn to swim. This is a small effort that can make a HUGE impact on so many folks--youth & elders alike--that need a way to do low impact movement & learn a new skill.
