I strongly oppose the placement of a detox facility next to our schools. While I fully support recovery programs and the importance of providing treatment resources, the proposed location raises serious concerns. Placing a detox center near schools compromises the safety, well-being, and peace of mind of students, parents, and staff. Children deserve a safe, stable, and secure environment to learn and grow — one that is free from potential risks and distractions.
There are more appropriate locations for such a facility that would both serve the recovery community and protect the sanctity of our educational spaces. Let’s work together to find a solution that respects all members of our community.
Having a detox center next to my neighborhood is concerning because it may expose my kids to unsafe situations, such as increased foot traffic from individuals struggling with substance abuse, which can impact their sense of safety and well-being
Thank you for allowing me to share why I care about this issue. I am against the location of this rehab facility, not the rehab facility. I feel we need to provide care for one another. The location is in the middle of neighborhoods, directly on the same property as a montessori pre-school, across the street from a youth sports complex , next to a middle school on one side, and next to a junior college on the other side. The safety and well being of all the children, students, young adults, everyone nearby is at risk. Statistics show violence and crime happens at and nearby these rehab facilities. Please do not allow this rehab facility to receive funding for this location. Thank you for your time and consideration this request.
This facility is too close to schools, daycare facilities, school bus stops, sidewalks where children. Walk to and from schools. There are other large plots of land in San Marcos that would have to same access to resources but WITHOUT being so close to a high density of children, adolescents and young adults. Please find a different location.
I’m not saying “no”, I’m saying “not HERE.” This proposed facility would be dangerously close to schools, daycare centers, school bus stops, and sidewalks where children, teens, and young adults walk every day. There are other locations in San Marcos that won't put kids at risk. Let’s work together and find a safer, more responsible solution.
I work as a Guest Teacher. I never stopped to think about something like this happening to me while I'm at a school. Not only could my pump alarms jeopardize my own safety, but also the safety of my students! There should be a way to silence the empty cartridge alarm in the case of an emergency such as this. Plugging the device into an outlet and putting it to sleep is not enough. This would require having a charging cable handy (without having to dig through a backpack for it - - making extra noise) and finding an outlet in a dark room. Plus, the light from the pump could be seen. Please consider making a change on the insulin pumps so they can be silenced in an emergency.
