I am an 18-year-old shortwave (and longwave) radio enthusiast in the US East Coast. Longwave has been in rapid decline, as many of you may know. This station is one of the three that I can receive on a daily basis, and I experience utter joy whenever I listen to that signal. I believe it is paramount to continue to uphold such an important and wonderful system to keep our tradition alive. Save our history, save longwave!

As a retired radio engineer, an amatuer radio-ham and the current owner of a ex Admralty LF radio Station, know the value of the LW (198KHz) AM transmitter, especially as current digital technolgy is so very fragile and not liikely to be EMP survivable.

As a radio teleswitch [RTS] customer in the Scottish Highlands whose electricity meter relies on the long wave transmitter for switching between peak and off-peak rates, and who has been advised by Octopus Energy and SMS Energy that I may not, after months of trying and two failed appointments already, get a suitable Smart Meter installed before 30th June 2025, I will have no option but to switch my supply off entirely to avoid erroneous billing. I will then begin a hunger strike in protest. Ofgem and the Westminster government need to urgently extend the service to avoid hundreds of thousands of other RTS customers being forced into both financial hardship and related health issues due to heating and hot water provision being impacted or removed entirely.

I have grown up with LW and I restore vintage valve radio's. To close down BBC radio 4 is criminal, not everyone can receive DAB as clearly as LW. It is a very spiteful move by the BBC who clearly have not done any proper research into how valuable this service is to many, many people. Any valve radio enthusiast such as myself will be left with nothing other than ornaments. This is a disgraceful and totally thoughtless move by the BBC.

Prior to the transmitter power of long wave 1500 metres being reduced to prevent interference with European radio, a large portion of Europe was enjoying the likes of Terry Wogan or Jimmy Young, because at that time it was the Light Programme, later Radio 2 broadcast on Long wave. Even after the power reduction and the change to Radio 4, there is hardly a square foot of the UK unable to receive when there is lots of places in the UK where the reception of other frequencies are too weak, sporadic or impossible. Should Britain be facing a national emergency a reliable method of distributing information should be available. While recognising having a Plan B is out of fashion in Britain, reliance on digital services to carry the load is pointless because in dire emergencies digital is the first to fail and long wave transmission would be the only available reliable method now our self-powered telephone system is being dismantled...
