This is all a fiscal eff up. A decade into Victoria’s rate-capping scheme and Kate’s genius move was to offset the soaring cost of essential services onto ratepayers who barely have enough pay. I noticed baw baw shire declined to respond to the herald. I guess by charging more for less they did respond

This is a counter intuitive plan that needs reassessment.

I called council and got told to email instead. So I did and got the same generic template response about the Special Consideration Program everyone else seems to be getting. Still no real answer to the actual question: Why wasn't the SCP organised before you cut our collection in half? You knew this would hurt people, cut the service anyway and now you're scrambling to fix it after the fact! I look forward to the next Council meeting, you need to explain yourselves and fix this complete cluster fuck!

We already have over flowing rubbish inside our home. This is disgusting. This is not a way forward. How can the council honestly believe this was going to work. Zero forethought. Should have asked the community before it was rolled out and theyll have realised it was not viable.

FOGO is a satanic cult. Your leftovers are the new sacrifice. We need real action against the evil that is destroying our livlehood.

11 Reasons to Stand Behind This Cause 1. This decision affects every household in the shire. Residents deserve a genuine say before, not after Council makes its decision. 2.Budget, Not the Environment: The landfill levy has increased by 260%, and the Mayor said cutting bin collections "makes sense for the budget." Don't present a cost-cutting measure as an environmental win while residents pay more for less. 3.Not State-Mandated: Fortnightly general waste collection is Council's choice, not a State requirement. Nearby Latrobe City runs FOGO while still collecting general waste weekly. 4.Show the Evidence: Council cites bins being "53% full" but hasn't released the audit. If the decision is data-driven, publish the data for our shire. 5.Health and Hygiene: Two weeks of nappies, incontinence products, and pet waste is a health and hygiene issue for families, elderly residents, and people with medical needs. 6.The Second Bin Doesn't Solve It: Paying an extra $100 a year for a second bin that's still collected fortnightly isn't a solution—it's paying more for the same problem. 7.Higher Rates, Less Service: Rates continue to rise while services are reduced. Miss a collection, and residents are left storing waste or paying to dispose of it themselves. 8.No Willingness to Review: Council has stated there will be no review or return to weekly collections, even if problems arise. Residents deserve the chance to have the policy reconsidered. 9.Who Benefits? Our organic waste is processed under a long-term contract by a private operator outside the shire, while residents bear the inconvenience and extra costs. 10.Where Are Our Rates Going? Council funds memberships with multiple regional lobbying groups. Before claiming weekly collections are unaffordable, ratepayers deserve transparency about these costs. 11. Community Health Risk: Overflowing rubbish creates odour, vermin, and biohazard risks, affecting neighbourhood amenity and public health. Please Sign and share the petition. This isnt environmental policy. its a budget decision in bloody disguise! councils costs go down. ours go up. thats a cost shift not sustainbility! council hiding in the green bucket while ratepayers pay more for less. don't stand there telling us it's for the environment while you're picking our pockets at the same time.

If this is a financial decision, council should have the honesty to present it as one! instead of hiding behind "sustainability" while quietly reducing a basic service and charging us more for less. This change was rolled out with no genuine consultation, the Mayor has said it herself.
