I got into the Dexter series back in 2024 when I was going through the worst time of my life. I didn't know it at the time but I would have been going through losing the person I loved dearly due to heinous dumb impulsive actions that could have been avoided. Dexter helped me find comfort in that struggling time, and continues to help me find comfort with things as time goes by through me re-watching the series as I've done like 10 times since, as well as the two new series.
I had a family member who I knew was a big fan of Dexter, and I keep up with a lot of news of entertainment and pop culture media because I'll always have talking points with my friends, and I remember telling this family member about New Blood when it was announced, then I remember telling them about Original Sin when it was announced too, with the casting choices, and my family member was really excited. So, when I got into the show, I knew Original Sin was coming, but I was hesitant when I finished the entire series and could finally call myself a Dexter fan. I finished the series literally a week before Resurrection was announced at SDCC 2024 and I couldn't be happier with that. Even with my hesitation about Original Sin, I was still excited for the future of the series with Resurrection, but that hesitation about OS quickly dissipated for me as we got trailers leading up to the drop of the first episode.
I couldn't believe they managed to make Dexter feel like Dexter with all these new actors, plus the addition of Michael C. Hall providing the inner voice still definitely helped, but Patrick Gibson was able to become DEXTER! Something I thought only possible through Michael, but Paddy managed to do it. Everyone in the show did. I have a few reservations about certain casting choices, but even then those reservations don't ruin the show and still feel just like the characters they're supposed to be for me.
I'm incredibly upset at the news and cancellation of Season 2 of Original Sin, as there's a good bit of paths to explore with it; Admittedly, I realize there's not a WHOLE lot to do with Dexter since we know a good chunk of his history from the original 2006 series, but I would've still enjoyed seeing him dawning the Henley as well watching him find and get his apartment and start his bloodslide collection.
Dexter as a whole means so much to me as it, the series, resonated deep within me during a hard time, in which I found myself being able to take comfort in Dexter's desire for a normal life and wanting to fit in and make good choices despite being who he really is, and the franchise as a whole has become one of my favorite fictional piece of media of all time. I'm a devout Dexter fan, I'm Dearly Devoted to Dexter (Eh? Get it? Cause the novel?...Ah forget it.) and watching Original Sin be cancelled hurts.
I want Paramount and Showtime to rethink their decision and continue on with one more season of this show as the actors deserve to have another go at it after the hard work they gave becoming the beloved characters we were already accustomed to. It was a highly rated show and when it dropped, was the most streamed show for Paramount's service. Of course, Resurrection now holds that spot along with being just as highly rated if not even more so, but it's a idiotic decision to cancel it.
We want more Dexter. I understand that maybe it could be confusing having the two shows existing simultaneously, one taking place in an already-set past and one taking place in the always changing and unpredictable present and future, but they could make it work. Rotate seasons each year, one year of Original Sin, one year of Resurrection. It'd work! I want one more season of Paddy as Dexter!
Dexter Resurrection is Showtime/Paramount's #1 show. Dexter Original Sin is their #2 show. Both shows have the same fan base. Why disrespect and piss off the fans you want to show up for Resurrection by canceling the other show? Are we being punished for SUPPORTING this franchise? Seriously? Has anyone thought for one moment that these two shows feed off each other and that the Resurrection show is simply growing momentum that could continue to grow in the next season of Original Sin? Why on earth would you kill your golden goose? It makes no sense. If you want to cut corners, or streamline or whatever you're calling it... you Kill your 10th most popular show, not your second. Also, how awful to renew and then break your word? You should have let season 2 play out. This rush to kill it is breaking all our trust. Again, the SAME fans> Why should we support ANY Dexter show or ANYTHING you create if you treat us this way? Bring Dexter Original Sin back. Don't let your ego get in the way of the smart move. It's understandable if you didn't understand what you were doing, but you can fix this mistake.
Dexter has been a show that me and my partner watched every single night before bed, its been an amazing experience and when we heard a new series called Original sin was going to be coming out we were both super hyped and skeptical, however I am pleased to say that this show exceeded all expectations and was amazing to watch, every actor portrayed a younger character perfectly and it was a real delight to watch them in this earlier world, when I heard season 2 was going to be a thing I was very happy, however I dont see any need to have something so amazing and creative to be cancelled. This is the first petition I've ever signed so I hope my voice counts towards helping this show not being lost <3
