These changes would especially limit treatment of children and adolescents with adhd, as getting to appointments in person will require missing school. Telehealth allows them to be seen quickly before or after school.

As a nurse residing in rural Oregon, this would be detrimental to patients who do not have local access to mental healthcare.

I have been in practice for close to 9 years and have served in 5 satellite offices of a Kansas-based clinic which served a community who mostly accessed their mental health care through telehealth. These communities and many others will be negatively impacted by this ruling.

Teleprescribing has brought access to my clients who have mental health problems, who had to wait 4 to 5 months on Medicaid to see a prescriber. Passing the new law would be a blow to the progress we have made with providing access.

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), I strongly oppose the DEA's proposed updates to telemedicine prescribing regulations for controlled substances. These changes, particularly the reinstatement of in-person evaluation requirements and the restrictions on telemedicine prescribing, will severely impact access to mental health care in rural areas. Many rural patients already face significant barriers, including provider shortages and long travel distances to receive psychiatric care. Telemedicine has been a critical solution, allowing timely access to necessary medications, including those for ADHD, anxiety, and depression. Requiring in-person visits will disrupt continuity of care, lead to treatment delays, and worsen mental health outcomes. Further, the burdensome registration requirements and state-specific restrictions will deter providers from offering telehealth services, exacerbating the mental health crisis in underserved communities. Rather than imposing restrictive policies, the DEA should focus on balancing patient safety with expanded access to evidence-based psychiatric care. This proposal disproportionately harms rural populations and contradicts efforts to improve mental health care accessibility. I urge policymakers to reconsider these measures and prioritize solutions that enhance, rather than hinder, equitable care delivery.

I have seen first hand how proper treatment for constituents in rural areas has improved their mental health. It is imperative to continue to provide care to those who need stimulant medication for their sake and for ours.
