I see how much my husband and all of his friends love this sport and how hard they work to play it and I think they deserve the right to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to this fast paced sport!
Kari supported: Implement badminton as an NCAA collegiate sport
For the love of the game and the AZ community. Without this program, Arizona is losing a consistently top ranked team that broadens the reach of GCU, and leaves countless young athletes without the local inspiration to play that I had growing up.
Trevor supported: Reinstatement of GCU Men's Volleyball Program to Division 1 Athletics
As a fellow division 1 volleyball who has looked up to the guys to come from GCU, this decision was not only gut wrenching but also completely disrespectful to all of the people involved with the program as well as the game of volleyball itself. This program has inspired me to better myself as a player as well as a person. For the entire volleyball world to feel the impact on top of all this program does within the local community to give back. For the AD to know months in advance that they are cutting the program and not saying a word until now (according to players) is completely unacceptable behavior from people who are supposed to uphold and set the standards of professionalism within the athletic department. So many athletes, coaches and families are going to deal with much more hardship over nothing but personal bias from a person who has shown time and time again that they do not care about growing the game.

Men’s volleyball is such a tight knit community and truly changes lives for the better. GCU is an amazing program consistency ranked top in the nation and won their conference and went to the national semifinals last year. Cutting this program would be like cutting a football program on the level of Michigan or Oregon at the height of their competitiveness. This is also the only D1 men’s volleyball program in Arizona, a state that has sponsored boy’s HS volleyball for many years, and as a former AZ HS volleyball player I can’t even describe the influence that GCU has had on the sport in the state, it’s incredible. BYU has made the jump to a new conference that doesn’t sponsor men’s volleyball without cutting their program, it’s possible. Cutting this program would be absolutely devastating not only to the current players (who are nationally recognized excellent players) but to all the high school players across the entire state. Please don’t do this!!

GCU Men’s Volleyball has been more than just a team—it’s been a pillar in the volleyball community, especially in Arizona. Ending this program dismisses the years of dedication, sacrifice, and excellence shown by these athletes, their families, and fans. As Arizona’s only Division I men’s volleyball program, GCU gave local players something to strive for and fans something to believe in. This team has not only competed at the highest level, but consistently ranked and helped grow the game across the region. Some of the most talented athletes I’ve ever watched came through this program. Discontinuing it would be a huge loss—not just to the school, but to the sport.

GCU Men’s volleyball has played a pivotal role in shaping the sport of volleyball in Arizona. Discontinuing the program is not only disheartening for the talented young men who are on this team, but, for those who aspire to be like them. With GCU being the only D1 Men’s volleyball program, this is a massive blow to Arizona volleyball.

Men’s volleyball is the fastest growing sport in the country right now! Defunding this program and not allowing young boys to play varsity volleyball is devastating. We need more opportunities for these boys to play high level volleyball. Rather than getting rid of the program, maybe talk to other schools in the conference to get them to get a men’s volleyball program! Getting rid of it is NOT the solution
Nathan supported: Reinstatement of GCU Men's Volleyball Program to Division 1 Athletics
I was an assistant coach with the TRU WolfPack Men’s Volleyball team in Canada and in 2022 we came down to Arizona to scrimmage with GCU in some exhibition matches over our Christmas break. The team, coaches and school was incredibly welcoming and we all had a great time training and competing together. It’s been great to watch the GCU program grow and in 2023 when three of our guys were involved in a tragic car accident, the GCU Coaches and players reached out in support. Taking away this opportunity for these young men to continue playing for a promising program and for more male athletes to have opportunities to play at the NCAA Div 1 level is incredibly disappointing. How is men’s volleyball supposed to grow when these setbacks keep occurring?

I was able to play men’s college volleyball at the NAIA level 30 years ago. The team became family and created life long friendships. I was then able to turn around and coach the next generation at the high school level. Don’t take away the memories and bonds these young men will build.
