Victories in Mine

Every acre matters! In our heavily degraded landscapes of Southern Minnesota, we need to protect these pockets of beauty and biodiversity. I am hopeful that Mankato township leaders will choose to value long-term ecosystem services, habitat, and community wellness for ALL over short-term private gains through mining.

Why, get that corporate agenda away from here. We the people will see little to no benefit from this and you’re gonna ruin a piece of what the community has shared for years. I want my kids to be Able to enjoy the same trail and nature that we have enjoyed. It’s not easy to find a public place that doesn’t have everybody in and out, but it’s what we got why make it worse.

I go to red jacket all year long, i love getting to explore the park and how picturesque it is. Mining is not picturesque... it's also not clean and I will no longer feel safe swimming at the park, something which I love and have so many great memories from.

Red Jacket Trail and Park are easily accessible areas that let me escape urban life for a bit and get out in nature. I fear mining so close to the park will take away this escape and irreparably damage our local ecosystems.

Jed Jacket Trail Park is a beloved destination. We already lost access to the Dam and this will be another huge loss to draw people to the area for recreation. This puts one man's profit over the whole communities enjoyment of the area.

Although gravel is important to civilization, this is too close to stable recreation and homes to be a good idea. Being in a flood plain conservation area strongly suggests that keeping it wild is the best use. Consider if this had already been stripped when Rapidan dam failed and flooded the river valley. Less stable ground likely would have caused more damage. I am opposed, and so should our leaders and decision makers be caring of our lives and environment.

Red Jacket Trail and Park is one of my favorite places to bring my dogs to explore and enjoy the outdoors. It would be a great shame to lose the wildlife and the peace and tranquility of walking around the lake and the trails. I hope wisdom and the needs of the greater community prevail and that this project is put on hold at least until an environmentally friendly and sustainable solution is found.

Red Jacket has been such a place of peace and restoration for me.

We love to kayak and bike at red jacket with our kids. It is so peaceful and this would interrupt that.
