I am a landlord and I am not allowed apply for any parking permits. This makes it impossible for me to park at a property I OWN to carry out essential annual repairs, decorating and to comply with the Erkective Licence that I pay OCC FOR!
I’m lease don’t make life even harder than it is already. I am a pensioner living on my own and the highlight of my day is to have a visit with members of my family or the occasional friend. Please don’t cut us off even further which affects our wellbeing and mental health.
I'm sure people would agree with my comment, that the sadiq Khan has gone to far with charging people to go through the tunnels & charging for each way is ridiculous & injustified. On top of these charges are congestion, ulez & ltn charges, also the rise in council tax. People are already being pushed over the edge into poverty. Each time you add more expenses to our living you are taking away food from children's mouths. I forgot to mention thar drivers pay road tax, insurance to drive on these roads which bring in a lot of revenue. You should feel ashamed of yourself, you say you come from a council house background, you have no shame in continously taking away from the working class, already struggling. Stop this nonsense now & let people drive freely through the tunnels at no expense.

“I travel daily to work. I work at North Middlesex Hospital in Edmonton and live in Woolwich. It’s not fair to be charged £8 per day – it’s becoming too difficult for me to afford now.”
It is unscrupulous to inflict yet more pain on the common working family when we are already deep in the trenches of the cost of living crisis. Improving air quality required the addition of the silver town crossing to keep traffic moving and not sitting stationary. As a commuter living in Bexley, the tunnel is vital for attending work supporting London's economy via spending money in the capital. I cannot afford to upgrade my low emissions (90g/km
£35 Road tax) diesel car and so already pay the £12.50 daily charge just to get to work. If I need to complete a site visit with my equipment, I then have to pay the congestion charge of £15. I also have to pay 52.4% tax on the diesel I use... approx £5 per day commuting alone (£2.62 in tax). This is all before I have paid the new £8 per day charge to get to work. My commute is now going to cost me £266.84 per week or £12,541.48 per year excluding holiday. At what point do I stop working in London and contributing to the economy. The state of this country and its tax affairs is pushing me to consider my options of remaining here. I am a 13th generation Englishman and I am not sure I want my children and grandchildren to be. Its not enough that we are being robbed/stabbed/abused by masked youths on electric bikes that the police do not seem to be able to catch, we are also being 'legally' robbed by this useless mayor and extended government. Tragic
This is another money making scheme in Khan’s war on motorists. All of this nonsense about ULEZ and clean air and now he is literally incentivising traffic to use the more central Rotherhithe Tunnel or Tower Bridge. The Woolwich Ferry is not reliable enough and I have already been given a questionnaire by Ferry staff asking how much I would be willing to pay. The Ferry service will either close down or become another toll, watch this space.
To get a builders van into town now is going to be about £34 a day, £680 a month!!! Absolutely sickening.
Work in West London where residebts can drive over any number of bridges crossing the river for free. Charging residents of less affluent parts of London to access a crossing that doesn't apply to residents further down river is scandalous and discriminatory.
Not only will this cause a ridiculous amount of standstill traffic and toxic fumes around rotherhithe tunnel, Tower bring and both the surrounding areas in east and south east London, but I believe this is one closer step to trying to phase out the non rich from being able to have a car/drive. Road tax, insurance, ULEZ, Congestion, parking and driving fines, Dartford tunnel (which never stopped charging as promised) should be more than enough. If they need less people on the roads, they should higher the driving age, not discriminate against those that are struggling to get by. The mayor of London clearing doesn't care about the majority.
I also don't drive a van, but this is a clear hit on all van drivers, as Vans cannot drive in the Rotherhithe tunnel, so all personal and work vans that can't pay the toll, will now can add an hour journey to detour, if they can't afford the toll, and create more problems for everyone else using the roads. Disgusting.
I live in SE12 9AH and work in Gants Hill. During rush hour, my commute by car takes around 45 minutes, but public transport can take over 2 hours, making it an impractical alternative for me.
With the introduction of the Blackwall Tunnel charge, I’m now questioning whether it is financially viable for me to continue working. This additional cost places a significant burden on regular users like myself who have no realistic transport alternatives.
When I contacted TfL, I was informed that only benefit recipients are entitled to exemptions or discounts. There appears to be no consideration for working professionals who contribute to the economy yet face limited commuting options. As a lecturer earning approximately £40,000 per year, this charge alone could amount to nearly one month’s take-home pay annually.
I urge you to consider advocating for a more flexible and fair approach—such as offering discounts or exemptions for regular commuters who do not have practical access to alternative routes or transport methods.
I am genuinely frustrated and disappointed by this policy, and I hope you can help represent the concerns of constituents like myself who are affected.
