Domestic violence laws worldwide really sucks just like it does here in the United States I'm trying to change these laws here my girlfriend is a domestic violence survivor and just like her and thousands of other women each and every day they are failed by the system that is supposed to protect them

I eventually reported this heinous crime to Essex police 26 years later and it was our daughter that found ‘him’ on LinkedIn when the police said they couldn’t. He was protected by the force he worked for and I was denied justice. I have absolutely no faith in the cps or police!

I know as I went through 6 yrs of hell in my 20s (I'm in my 60s now), culminating in me having a miscarriage after my then partner violently attacked me and pushed me down concrete steps.
Rape comes under "domestic abuse" for some reason: yes it often is, but it's also often by a complete stranger. It shouldn't matter how it starts - violently attacking someone sexually (male/female/trans) is abhorrent.
That any police officer has mocked a victim, in their hearing or not, is vile. Other people were obviously present and overheard this, and that says to me that this officer did not respect the victim, nor anyone around them.
I do not care about the sex, orientation or race of the victim - police officers are there to protect us all and uphold the law without fear or favour.
I never went to the police about the abuse I suffered, much to my shame. Not until the night I left and he threw everything of mine out onto the street from first and second storey windows - the police told him to to bring it back in and let me know (my Dad had picked me up by then at 10.30pm) and said to return the next day with a police escort to collect it (which I did). They pretty much told me there was nothing they could do beyond that.
I ended up paying for everything left in the flat - furniture etc as it was in joint names so joint/several liability kicked in when he refused to pay! I lost the balance in my bank account too - that he'd persuaded me to put into joint names, but only ever had my salary paid into - he got paid in cash and spent most of it in the pub!
In my early 20s I was very naive and put up with utter crap for 6 yrs.
I learned to speak up and helped get a policy about domestic abuse through my trade union (the first to do so in the UK), but have largely, stayed silent about my own situation and mental struggles since.
Rape and abuse scars people long-term. To know that someone who's supposed to uphold the law may have mocked you when making that initial report, would add to the abuse. I cannot comprehend why any serving police officer would do that.
I hope the UK government's stated policy of action on violence against women and girls is really taken seriously and real action is taken. That has to include a review of how law enforcement and medical people deal with calls, interviews etc, as well as the courts process. Proper support need to be put in place too for the victims, so that they get the help they need to cope.

Finally I was believed and the detectives dealing with the case were amazing (and also women). I dread to think what the attitudes of the male officers were to my reports and the comments they would have shared between each other.
This goes beyond an institutional issue and is deeply embedded within society.
But never give up, never give in and always keep reporting.

I grew up in a province where not most of the incumbent leaders specifically National don't listen, pay less attention and dont take actions most of the community problems. Growing up with fear of New people's army, drug addicts, political killing in my province made me realize that when Duterte came, He is capable of a change we are all waiting fot. With all high hopes together with my fellow Masbateño we voted for him and He didn't disappoint us. He is a man of His words. Now we are in grief and sorrow to see our true saviour and hero experiencing this kind of treatment. It's like the little hope that we had was gone and back to our hopeless states. 😭 Now I am living away from my country because When He was gone and finish his term as a President, All the drug addicts, New people's army harrassment and killings are back again. I am not safe anymore. I love Philippines but I have to stay away from there as far as I could.

After Sattler "voluntarily left" Family Court, Waterman was scheduled to take my case but didn't. So I was spared further abuse, at least not so extreme, although between the AFC's and the Judges, it has bee impossible to get them to actually look at the evidence and protect my child... As it is, Family Court is a cesspool of conflicted interests, lack of regulation and abusive treatment of children and parents. It is quite literally medieval. At a minimum, judges like Waterman have to be removed and sanctioned, so the reform will start.
