Juvenile justice reform is a pressing issue globally, focusing on improving the treatment and outcomes for young offenders in the justice system. Recent trends highlight the need for more rehabilitation-focused approaches rather than punitive measures for juvenile offenders. Petitions in this topic often advocate for fair and equitable treatment of young individuals, addressing issues like harsh sentencing, solitary confinement, and lack of access to education or mental health services.
One notable petition calls for the end of solitary confinement for juveniles, citing research that shows the detrimental effects of isolation on young minds. Another petition pushes for increased funding for alternative programs like mental health counseling and job training to help prevent recidivism among juvenile offenders.
Join the movement for juvenile justice reform by exploring the petitions and adding your voice to the call for a more humane and effective approach to youth rehabilitation. Your support can make a difference in shaping a better future for young individuals involved in the justice system.
This is such a sad demonstration on failure of our system, I have known this family for many years, grandmother, father and 2 young boys , super intelligent, Wonderful children, I knew of some of the emotional trauma thru grandmother. When the unthinkable happened we were shocked, as a nurse I realize psychological and emotional problems can be difficult to fully understand, what I can't understand is how a young man can be condemned to prison when it is obvious he had emotional problems. As well he committed this when only 16 how then is he being treated as an adult. Please consider this young man's emotional and psychological state in weighing your final decisions.
The system repeatedly fails the most vulnerable. Mental health is so often stigmatized, but in reality it is just can important as physical health. If the goal of the criminal justice system is really rehabilitation and not just punishment then in this situation the mental health of the defendant but be taken into account and he must get the help he needs. Those with mental disorders suffer greatly in prisons.
Please give Daniel the mental health care he needs. It is the just & humane thing to do. The system had failed this young man & his family. Please do the right thing & put him in a facility where he can get the help he needs!
As a mother, I am completely outraged with this. My mother was mentally ill and she was not allowed to have custody of me - and for that reason, I am here today. The system failed this baby boy, he should have been protected. His bio mom should be in prison for life, as she was mentally stable enough to have custody of her bio son.
In court, she did not allow my attorney to speak. She asked the defendant do she want her daughter, a child who thought she was her sister. She responded no. She court ordered that child go with the mother anyway. The child, affected by this to this day. Ripped from the only family she knew. Was placed in foster care because she never had counseling with this stranger and did not go because of this order to go with her mother who openly stated in court she did not want her. Instead of allowing her to go where she was safe, she is a foster child instead of going with a family member as a punishment for not going with with her mother who said she didn’t want her. This child will be graduating with honors this year and overcame the mess Judge Floyd created for her. There was family who could’ve taken her. This will take many many years to repair. Maybe, irreparable.

As a mother, it breaks my heart the system failed this young boy and put him in danger. This boy left this earthly world too soon and left behind people who loved and cared for him, people who would were trying to protect him. So saddening.
This is completely devastating. This should not have happened. That boy was doing amazing in his foster home. Those parents that killed him should never have gotten him back. No parents that have had there kids taken from them can turn around and “be better” in that short amount of time. There were plenty of lawyers and professionals advising that he not go back to his bio parents, why the hell would you ignore that? if you can sit there and let these children go back to these homes that put them in danger, you should not be a judge, and you should be behind bars for the rest of your life. I don’t care if she is a judge, she 100% needs to be punished for what she did.
