Hockey has grown and grown in the SE!
I always wanted to play, but we never had rinks or leagues. Just as I heard of a LA Warehouse where people played, a HS Teammate from up north, with lots of equipment came to stay, and we attempted to play...but warehouse had been shut down.
So in the late 80's & 90's my only options were Floor Hockey in Intramurals. Though I owned my own skates, I had no place to play. In the 2000's I moved to Texas and loved teaching #Skating101 at School! While it was roller, it worked for PE. I also petitioned #DallasStarsStreetHockey to come for a visit or 2 as we did Hockey & Skating in both our Fall & Spring Curriculum.
Everyone deserves the chance to play, compete, and develop skills for the ice, and even the great eye / hand coordination! Please Share and/or Donate!
Ice hockey was a huge part of my childhood watching the Tiger Sharks. It is a shame they aren’t around anymore and that FSU hockey has to travel to a different city just to practice. As the capital of Florida and all the revenue that FSU brings in, getting an Ice rink built here for college and professional teams to play and practice is way overdue!
Being from Chicago originally, ice skating was one of the most fun things to do on a weekend even in the summertime with an indoor rink. It would be great to be able to have that again and the opportunity for local kids to enjoy it and have more extracurricular activities makes the prospect even better.
FSU is such an amazing campus. It has everything we might need when it comes to academics; however, as students, we need recreational resources as well, and ice skating is one extracurricular activity, or simply a hobby that we are lacking around the Tallahassee area! This would make such a positive impact on hockey fans and professionals as well when deciding to move to Tallahassee. An ice skating rink should be a must :)
Been missing skating and watching hockey games since I moved down here! Would be great to have a rink in town for public skate, hockey, figure skating, and lessons. Skating is a great activity for group outings, field trips, family time, and more. It would provide another way for Tallahassee residents to stay active. It’s also a great activity year round, from heading to the rink in the winter and grabbing some hot chocolate after a fun skate, or going during the summer to beat the heat. Bring ice back to Tallahassee!
As a former FSU ice hockey club player, we always had to play our games on the road. The atmosphere of a home game in Tallahassee would have been an incredible experience, and would have helped us generate some gate revenue to support the club.
I love the idea of an indoor hockey rink, but I think one without ice would be more feasible/cost-effective to build and maintain and would provide more flexibility for community use.
Signed, a former local rollergirl who spent years trying to find appropriate practice and sanctioned game space in Tallahassee.
I would love love love to have an ice rink in tally!! It would open up so many more doors for family fun and extracurricular activities! Plus the closest rink is about 3 hours away so most of us who grew up have never had to opportunity to try this fun new hobby!
I have 2 Grandchildren, William 13 & Brooke who play Ice Hockey in Maryland on a outdoor rink.
My son, Steve, played for his school and private club.
My daughter, Sarah played for the private club.
So, I support any Ice Hockey rinks looking to be built. It’s an incredible sport and also builds confidence starting at a young age. The rink can also be used to teach young figure skaters.
