I work with special needs children and fear for their safety when they have to cross. Even when I am with them, several cars speed by before anyone stood. Sometimes a car passes the stopped car and creates a deadly situation.

Most cars driving up and down Ridgewood are going way above the speed limit.
This is a family oriented residential neighbourhood and sadly very young and elderly people had been hit by cars that do not yield to pedestrians.
On a daily basis, I witness and experience how drivers can be careless about pedestrians standing at the crosswalk. They do not stop even when they are aware of pedestrians.
When there is no daylight, it can be hard for drivers to spot people waiting to cross or those already crossing.
It is very common to see tourists at this intersection as it is the one of the closest bus stop to Capilano Suspension Bridge. A lot of people, locals and non locals, end up jaywalking when drivers do not stop for them.
Furthermore, One dangerous recurrent situation I have witnessed is vehicles going eastbound on Ridgewood and turning left on Norcross.
When this vehicles are turning left on Norcross, the vehicles behind will not wait and try to pass on the right side without verifying that there is no one crossing the street.
This is also the time when pedestrians take advantage of the turning vehicle to cross the street which can lead to pedestrian getting hit.
I strongly believe drivers and pedestrians could benefit from a flashing light.
Please help us make this intersection safer for everyone.

There have been multiple accidents involving pedestrians and the visibility of this crossing needs to be addressed! It is a well used crosswalk by residents and visitors to our area, please help us make it SAFE!

It is where the main thoroughfare quickly changes to a residential neighborhood. I have personally witnessed many, many cars blast through this pedestrian crosswalk despite seeing pedestrians waiting to cross and occasionally still crossing or just about to. This is a very worthwhile initiative being led by a young change-maker in our community and I hope we will the see the DNV act swiftly! At the very least, I certainly hope this brings more awareness to the importance of slowing down.

A flashing light is the only safe way to resolve this issue, both for locals as well as daily visitors to the suspension bridge. Great initiative!
