We all have to use energy as sensibly as possible but Ofgem's approach allowing increases to fixed daily charges does not help. It is totally unjust to charge these rates even when no energy is being used. My father died last year and had a lot of credit on his account. We needed to keep power to the property to be able to prepare it for rental. We used virtually no energy throughout the summer but all his credit was taken up through the fixed charges! This is taking money for nothing and is totally unacceptable.
I think it is shameful the way Energy companies are continually increasing prices, particularly given the huge profits. It is also shameful that this Labour Government when in opposition, Ed Milliband said Conseratives should be charging a windfaull tax, to energy companies, he said, it was obscene the huge profits being made in May 2022, Now as Secretary of Energy, why has he not dealt with - To add insult to injury reports state, this Government will be providing £9 Billion of taxpayers money towards Solar Energy products. In the meantime those who suffer will be the elderly, confused, who cannot cope with this ridiculous capping system. Less than a week ago, I am a pensioner, with more or less a state pension to live on. I have skipped dinners this winter because I hate ot be cold.
My country, SCOTLAND, is energy rich in Hydropower, Wavepower, Windpower yet we pay ridiculously high charges for electricity due to imported gas, an outmoded so-called 'national' grid system of supply, and an insane commitment to nuclear power AND......the excessive profits of the suppliers like the SPANISH OWNED Scottish??? Power. We are being ripped off and the ineffectual English government is doing nothing about it. Party of the Workers? it's a sick joke.
Hi I’d just like to say a little message to the powers that be I’ll be 75 in a few weeks and for the last 6 no 7 years I’ve had no heating or hot water in my home. This is due to SSE robbing me every month for years. The crunch came when a woman phoned me to let me know they were putting my direct debit for electricity up to £125 a month from £90. I refused to let them do that and it was impossible that I could be using the amount they were going to charge me. She said the type of heating I had was storage heating quite old. Her reply was ‘but your type is the most expensive type’ I asked her doesn’t it need to be switched on to be expensive? Silence at her end that obviously wasn’t on her script. I said I had not had my heating on for 3 years and moved into my living room. That was almost 7 years ago and I’m still living ‘no sorry exsisting’ this way. After more than 4 hours on the phone I admit I broke down it was like talking to a robot. I’d really had enough so I said I want you to get an engineer to my home on Monday and remove the meter for my heating system. Oh we can’t do that I said you will or I will get an engineer myself to remove it. Her response was I’ll just put you through to someone. That poor someone was actually very nice and as I was still very upset I just asked him to please write down what I was about to say and act on it. I said I want an engineer to come remove my heating meter. I don’t want you to say anything as I’ve just had 4 hours of telling me what I can’t do. Thank you for listening but let them know if they don’t remove it on Monday I will have an engineer remove it on Tuesday. It was removed on the Monday. The reason I know they were robbing me is my daughter had a 5 bedroom house 6 children all living at home and she was paying much less for her gas and electricity. I only have electricity. I could have and should have gone to the ombudsman to get some justice but I had a bit of a break down and couldn’t have coped with anymore phone conversations. I’ve always worked and paid my bills never asked for anything and I realise that’s probably the reason I was targeted for such an idiotic rise. I’m now with an amazing electric provider with no horrible shocking phone calls. So Ofgem think before you add misery to more people with your greed for huge profits. Thanks to anyone who reads this as it’s taken a lot to finally tell this disgusting behaviour by SSE
As we are all aware, there are millions of people in the UK today struggling to survive and having to make that horrendous choice whether to be warm or eat. The last thing they need is to have the berden of unnecessary additional charges for energy added.
I would ask the people proposing this shift of charges onto domestic consumers to STOP AND THINK SERIOUSLY.
This is morally wrong and I suspect that you make these decisions as it is the easy option. Domestic customers must be treated fairly. OFGEM....PLEASE THINK CAREFULLY and consider the vulnerable in our country. Ian McInnes
If companies cannot run their businesses efficiently it is the directors/shareholders who should take responsibility and not make customers pay for their incompetence.
They have no right to high incomes and bonuses if they have not done their job properly. There should be a cap on salaries and bonuses. As a pensioner I am not eligible for any support (a pension is not a benefit - I have been frugal, and gone without many things throughout my life, to provide for my old age). I cannot possibly cut back any more.
People are struggling with the cost of electricity and gas due to the cost of living. This includes the elderly, people out of work and working people. These companies are making huge profits and yet still they raise their prices and charge a daily standard charge.
As an individual on the state pension it is extremely difficult to heat the home to a comfortable level , heating one small sitting room to 17 centigrade is ok but the rest of the house is struggling to reach double figures . If I’m finding surviving hard there are others struggling more than myself and I just don’t understand how the government don’t realise the difficulties. They seem to want to kill us off to save paying out pensions even though it is our right having worked for 56 yrs and paying into the system , worst of all the government have reneged on their pre election promises or just plain lied to gain votes !
