As the main demographic that grew up with these characters, to see them changed into this, is devastating. Everything gets rebooted and changed these days, I think we should be allowed to have ONE thing remain the same. The nostalgia of the OLD animation is where it's at.
As someone who grew up with Shrek movies I don’t think it’s fair to take something from the past people still hold close to disregard them and move forward to attract the generation of today. If the goal is to gain their attention, they need to focus on moving forward, write a different story and be creative for once in these coming years. It’s very hard to find movies now that aren’t related to today’s memes or viral moments. Make something Dreamworks, and leave your comfort zone again.
My family and I love the shrek movies. They’re something that we will constantly sit down together and binge as a family. We have always found the movies hilarious and to have a great storyline. However, with the new animation of Shrek 5, it does not seem to be loyal with the original animation at all. I get that they want to modernize the film for a newer generation, but don’t forget about the older generation that grew up watching these films. Heck, even copying the same newer kind of animation used in Puss in Boots 2 would look good for this film. I’m not for this complete new redesign of characters though. Please just remember the older fans too with this new movie.
1994 babe here! When our family finally got our first DVD player, Shrek was the very first dvd we owned! And I’m pretty sure we got it from the movie bin in Walmart but there was no way our parents were paying $20 for a dvd so we were just glad. And boy, were we glad. That film held up till the wheels fell off. Scratches? We didn’t care, we did the fridge hack, the toothpaste hack, anything to get one more watch out of it. My now 3 kids know the movies well, they’ve watched all the mini films on Netflix, the season films as well, and don’t get me started on the new Puss in Boots. They know the characters so well I can definitely say they would notice the animation change. Films series like Shrek are meant to share the feeling of familiarity and warmth. Keeping the original animation with obvious aging specs would have accomplished that. So, give the public that, pleaseeee with a cherry on top.
