I was born in Nashville and the youngest of 10. Our dad worked at Farmers Market Warehouse which is now where the bicentennial mall is located. Back then in Nashville country music artist could go shopping dine out without being disturbed by the media or paparazzi. I say this because when I first met dolly my dad introduced me to her in the Farmers Market and I knew who she was. Her sister Stella was with her and they would come and get vegetables my dad was the head of the produce department. She then just like now is full of energy. She always seem excited about life or anything. And she wasn't too big to stop and talk to people she was our neighbor. Proud Tennessee girl and an incredible singer-songwriter. I don't feel like I have to go much further about her journey from the late sixties until now in the country music business here in Nashville. She is known worldwide. Not only for her music mostly for her character. She's a kind loving woman. A role model for young and old. She's the first to step up to the plate when someone's in need but she doesn't quietly as to not thump her chest and say hey look at me. She does it from the heart just like she writes and sings. In recent times Nashville has suffered devastating damages from storms floods and fires. Before the Red Cross before gofundme's before volunteer groups are formed there's dolly. Giving of her time and her finances for those in need both hurting and helping. I cannot think of anybody other than dolly that the Nashville Airport should be named after. Can you just hear it? Do you think anybody would have any doubt where you were going if you said you were flying into Dolly Parton Airport? To name the airport after anybody else especially someone who doesn't represent the same values or even live in the state or from the state would be wrong! Long before anybody else was ever mentioned dolly was first mentioned when the thought of renaming the airport here in Nashville. You know why? Because that's the way it should be. I'm telling you this from a true Nashville who remembers Nashville before it became what it is today. It just sounds right inappropriate Dolly Parton International Airport Nashville Tennessee
As a born and raised Tennessean, I think there is a pretty unanimous consensus amongst the people here that Dolly has done more for this place than many politicians ever have. Maybe just “Dolly International Airport” or “Parton International Airport” would fit more since it would roll off the tongue easier, but at the very least that could name a terminal or something after her.
Dolly’s Foundation is the only entity that gave financial support to my son (as well as everyone who lost their home) in the 2016 Gatlinburg fire. With that money he was able to have a down payment on another house
Dolly Parton absolutely deserves this honor in her home state of Tennessee. She has written countless songs celebrating Tennessee, founded the Imagination Library here to promote childhood literacy, and has a massive economic impact thanks to Dollywood. She has also shown generosity, donating $1 million to Vanderbilt University to help develop a COVID-19 vaccine, providing funds to families affected by the Smoky Mountain wildfires, and supporting flood relief efforts in East TN. Dolly embraces love, celebrates diversity, and has been a proud ally to the LGBTQ+ community. In contrast, Trump has not contributed in any meaningful way to the state of Tennessee.
Dolly Parton has made significant contributions to Tennessee beyond her music career, impacting education, economic development, philanthropy, healthcare, and cultural preservation:
Education:
Established the Imagination Library, distributing over 200 million free books to children globally, with a focus on improving literacy in Tennessee.
Funded scholarships for Sevier County high school students to promote higher education.
Economic Development and Tourism:
Created Dollywood, Tennessee's largest ticketed tourist attraction, which generates millions of dollars annually and provides thousands of jobs.
Advocates for the preservation of the Great Smoky Mountains, supporting conservation efforts in the region.
Philanthropy: Founded the My People Fund, raising millions to assist families impacted by the 2016 Sevier County wildfires.
Organized the "Smoky Mountains Rise" telethon to support wildfire recovery efforts.
Healthcare: Donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, aiding in the development of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
Contributed to children’s healthcare initiatives and supported local hospitals.
Cultural Contributions: Promotes Tennessee’s cultural heritage, helping maintain Nashville’s reputation as Music City and supporting the Tennessee Music Pathways initiative.
Honored with the Dolly Parton Parkway in Sevier County, reflecting her deep connection to her home state.
Community Engagement: Continually invests in her hometown of Sevier County by funding schools, libraries, and community projects.
Supports disaster relief efforts and children’s welfare through the Dollywood Foundation.
Dolly Parton is the best Tennessee representative. She was born in our state, moved to Music City to reach for the stars, achieved the American dream and entertained the world doing it. She has helped Tennessee economically by establishing Dollywood and has inspired children the world over by providing free books to inspire a love of reading. She is kind and loves everybody. As a native Tennessean myself, I can't think of anybody who shows what Tennesseans really are better than Dolly Parton, so I hope the Nashville International Airport will soon be called the Dolly Parton International Airport. Congrats, Dolly, you deserve it.
I may not live in Tennessee but I agree with this so much. She has made such an impact on my life she helped me overcome suicidal thoughts and just overcome the challenges of everyday life. I am praying that you reach your goal .
When a state representative filed a bill to rename Nashville’s BNA Airport after President Trump, Tennessee residents Dan Dion and Lydia Popovich were inspired. Why not consider naming the airport instead after a born and raised Tennessean like Dolly Parton?
