As a person of color, I think debate is extremely useful in arguing for human rights. These young debaters should be allowed to participate in both tournaments to one day fight for human rights themselves

Participating in high school debate teaches young people face-to-face communication and listening skills, and gives them the ability to form opinions based on study and research of fact-based information. It extends to teaching solution-based compromise due to its very nature of bringing two (or more) sides of an issue together in a civilized format. All of these characteristics are sorely lacking in every corner of today’s government. In fact, in every corner of today’s society. High school debate should not be limited or removed - it should be expanded, even included as required education. It is critical that current and future generations learn these skills for the sake of democracy.

Without my placement, I would never have been accepted into Equality in Forensics, and the countless opportunities that I've enjoyed as a part of my involvement through that amazing organization. By cancelling the tournament (for PF, LD, CX, and Congress too), the IHSA has removed an important opportunity for debate seldom available in Illinois.

The IHSA name brings a lot of weight and makes the efforts of all debaters involved in the competition a lot more meaningful. Bringing back the IHSA sponsorship is incredibly important!

It isn't just fun to compete at - it also connects debate to hundreds of individuals who would otherwise never be allowed to participate in this amazing opportunity. While the IHSA originally cut debate because of a lack participation, this has turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy: without IHSA, there can be no participation.

I've had a wonderful 4 years of debate, and we have many new novices this year who would see great success over the coming years in Debate. It's been my place for high-level discussion and research, and it'd be unfortunate to diminish this opportunity for future debaters.
