The pigeons didn't construct the deadly chokepoints at the CTA station that entrap them. Come on, City Council, grow a heart and fix this problem that is cruelly killing our bird population. Pigeons might not be the avian attraction like piping plovers with the cachet to shut down an entire rock concert on the beach... But after all, Chicago IS a sanctuary city and needs to remember to be welcoming & kind to all our avian friends, from piping plovers to pigeons.
It’s unbelievably cruel to know this problem exists and to do nothing about it. They are living creatures and deserve basic respect and kindness, let’s do the right thing and protect them in a way that is simple and easy, but will save many souls.
These are living creatures that deserve to be treated humanely and are seen as nuisances and pests . These animals were once regarded with respect and dignity and were even seen as war heroes delivering messages. This is the least we can do to protect them and not have them become trapped and starved to death!
Its cruel that these pigeons regularly get stuck and despite an easy fix nothing has been done. Sure the pigeons are dirty, but like any living thing on this earth they deserve our respect and should be helped when possible.
The city is responsible for ensuring the safety of its inhabitants, both human and animal. It's incredibly inhumane for birds to be stuck and die in this manner due to bad design. It is saddening and frustrating for citizens to have to dedicate their own time to rescue stuck birds, and even remove the more unfortunate ones that are dying and dead. Please take action and take care of ALL the living beings in this city!
I lived in Chicago for 17 years and 24 hour transit was vital. Not everyone can afford to be taking an Uber or similar in the late hours and transit should be protected at all costs. It's one of the best things about the city.
