My heart hearts for you and your family. What a beautiful brother you had.😪 One precious life lost is too many, and all of your lives changed forever. It is more than manslaughter, in my mind. When someone gets behind the wheel of a vehicle under the influence of any substance they know they have the potential to kill. That's premeditation enough in my mind! Life sentence, life time ban. That's what Tim's family are facing! So sorry for your loss.
I am an ex driving instructor so road safety has always been important to me personally but it is vital for good safe driving on our roads as sometimes with speed a split second of dangerous thoughtless driving can be fatal.
Having lost relatives to dangerous drivers, I fully support this petition but i would like to see it go further with a mandatory life sentence akin to that given for murder for those convicted of causing death by dangerous driving.
Dangerous drivers are not only a menace on the road to themselves but to other road users. Killing someone by driving dangerously is a crime of the highest order. Not only has a life been lost but the unspeakablel grief it has caused to the familiy and friends of the person who has died should be taken into account when the case comes to Court. The perpetrator should be remanded in custody until his case goes to Court. Also his driver license should be revoked forever. How does one get over the loss of a loved one. The loss can cause irreparable damage to the lives of others both emotionally and mentally. How does one quantify this kind of loss and the impact it has on so many other people. This is a crime that should be dealt with by the Court with a sentence appropriate to the loss of life and especially in a case where the driver has been taking drugs and driving under the influence of alcohol. This person should be given a sentence taking into account all the above factors - the killing of an innocent person - the grief suffered by the family and friends of the victim. The highest sentence of the law should be given. How can someone who has been drinking alcohol and taken drugs not realise what could happen if he went behind the wheel of a car. A stiff sentence is the only answer.
No family should have to go through this. The driver took the decision to get behind the wheel whilst knowing had been drinking and taking drugs! There must be consequences to deter this in the future.
I live in the city, every day I'm hearing or seeing on the news people being killed by driver's in car's,bus's,the other night it was a boat due to recklessness. People need to be held accountable. All the cut back's the government are making mean's more children will have to walk to school instead of being safe on a bus. People are out on their bike's cycling and are getting killed. Hearing that people are already had some kind of fine or ban and still choosing to get in a car is unacceptable and their's no police to serve and protect now. No family should have to go through this due to a wreckless person's decision of deciding to get behind a wheel. My cousin hit a young girl back in the 80's,it was ruled an accident as the young girl was running from getting bullied. I watched my cousin in despair what happened with that little girl. He scrapped his car&has never driven since, his well being has suffered severely. He made the decision never to drive again. I know 2 people that have hit&killed the other driver while high on drink or drug's,fleeing from the scene. The poor people couldn't flee as the had been hurt so badly. 5 year's that's the sentence they got. It seem's the goverment are happy to give collect money from the fine's but no one is held accountable.
Drivers who fail tests for alleged drink and drug driving should have their licenses revoked immediately. The possible results of their selfish actions have the potential to cause destruction, life changing injuries and the deaths of innocent individuals. These individuals must be removed from the roads leniency should not be an option. As a former member of the emergency services I and former colleagues have had to deal with the actions of these selfish individuals. Change is long overdue to reduce this carnage on our Highways. It's absolutely ridiculous that people who have been proven to be unsafe behind the wheel do not have their licence immediately suspended until the authorities can be assured they aren't a danger on the roads. It won't be popular but I do think other methods of transport such as e-bikes and electric scooters need covering by similar legislation to protect pedestrians as they can cause equally catastrophic injury yet the area I live in has a big issue with people using them while under the influence and there isn't enough legislation to protect the public from irresponsible individuals who can destroy entire families with their selfish behaviour.
