People who do Trap/Neuter/Release are reducing the number of homeless cats.
TNR has been proven to make a big difference by managing this problem rather than
killing these innocent cats who are in dire situations and fighting for survival. This
horrible situation is the result of people failing to neuter/spay their pets and often
simply abandoning pets when it suits them. Many municipalities work with residents
for the benefit of everyone…especially the cats. Give this a try rather than wholesale
slaughter.
Members of the community who actively care for the community cats also participate in Trapping/Neutering/Releasing them to avoid overpopulation and care for these animals. By banning feeding them you're only contributing to the problem, not making a solution where there are plenty of organizations and community members who already participate in ensuring the welfare of these animals.
TNR works. Thousands of dedicated people all over the world trap, rescue, and return ferals. These are people who are responsible and care for animals. They are resolute in the conviction these animals are
innocent and are in their homeless situation because
of humans discarding them. The easy and inhumane
way out of this situation is to ignore the ferals and
let them starve to death ... or step up and do the right
thing .
As a Floridian of thirty years, I have seen with my own eyes that Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) works. By not allowing feeding community cats, and by virtue of that not allowing TNR, you are upsetting a naturally occurring pest-control ecosystem that has worked for more years than any of you have been on this earth. The community cats are G-d's creatures same as we humans are. Let the community cats live!
These cats are victims of a society who has let them down, we cannot abandon them. Thays not the way to solve the problem, feeders aren't the problem, the problem are those who feed and don't trap them to get fix, what feels right is not the same as doing the right thing. These cats are hunters and will start eating the native wildlife like birds, lizards and other species. Whoever thinks this is the way to go about it needs to re evaluate their entire existence.
