IHSS lets me take care of my severely disabled husband at home. These cuts would be devastating to us. Especially the asset limits which would force us to live in extreme poverty in order to continue to get these life saving services. If you depend on IHSS, your life is tough enough as it is! Please don’t take away that safety net for the most vulnerable.
I barely started the IHSS program, but I can tell you it has helped a lot. I have 3 brother in laws that are disabled and being able to help them is enough for me, but being able to have an income is a blessing. The IHSS program is essential because it helps people with disabilities.
I am a parent of twins with autism, and IHSS has been essential in allowing me to stay home and provide the care they need. With multiple therapy appointments each week and constant supervision required, it would be impossible to balance a full-time job and still meet their needs without this support.
If there are cuts to Medi-Cal or a cap placed on IHSS overtime, it would directly and severely impact our family. Not only would our income drop significantly, but I would be forced to choose between working and providing the hands-on care my children with disabilities require. These services are not luxuries—they are lifelines for families like mine. Please protect IHSS and Medi-Cal funding.
We are newly starting the IHSS caregiver process, but I can already tell you it will be a life saver. As a mom to a child that’s autistic and non speaking, it’s so difficult to entrust strangers to take care of your child. We have one family member who helps us, but as my child ages and his needs get more complex, he needs me home to take care of him full time. I have to be able to homeschool, take him to therapies, etc. Programs like this are essential to families of children with disabilities.
I am a single mother caring for my disabled son. He will never be able to care for himself and relies on me to provide for him. IHSS allows for him to be at home where he is loved and cared for properly. It would be detrimental to his well being to lose this funding.
Please don't do this to our community. As a country and state we can't afford more cuts. I am very fearful of what is becoming of our society. Jobcorps, a program for disadvantaged youth was recently shut down leaving many homeless. We need humanitarian services. For more than one reason. My sister has Dementia. We need to provide for her 24/7. She has already been abused by strangers. I need to be with her to give her the care that she needs.
My daughter is 23 and autistic. She is one of the ones that requires 24 hour supervision the cuts to ihss would severely impact our lives. Cutting hours means I would likely have to try a part time job and risk my daughter regressing and with her self harming it could have consequences. The lack of child care especially for non verbal special needs is a serious problem and should be considered before cutting hours of people who will sacrifice to stay home with their kids. California is considered a privilege state because of these programs hence higher taxes on everything and I pay them. I stay in this state because of these programs pay the higher taxes if you start cutting what is the point in staying here. Then no one will pay your taxes
I am writing to you today as a deeply concerned parent and caregiver. I’ve recently learned about the proposed cuts to medical services and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) hours, and I am pleading with you to reconsider. These cuts will not only hurt countless families across the state they will personally devastate mine.
My daughter has autism and requires 24-hour care. The support we currently receive through IHSS and medical programs is vital to her well-being and safety. Without it, I don’t know how we will manage. I am her primary caregiver, and the support allows me to care for her at home, where she feels safe and supported.
Reducing these services will have a direct and painful impact on our lives. It will place an impossible burden on families like mine who are already doing everything we can to care for our loved ones. It’s not just numbers on a budget it’s about real people who need help to live with dignity and stability.
Please, do not make these cuts. Stand with families like mine who depend on these services to survive and to care for those who cannot care for themselves. We are counting on your compassion and leadership.
Sincerely,
Christina Franco
