Birds play a crucial role in our ecosystems, from pollination to pest control. Petitions on Change.org related to birds cover a wide range of issues, including conservation efforts, protection of endangered species, and prevention of animal cruelty. One petition calls for stricter penalties for bird poaching and illegal bird trade, highlighting the need to combat wildlife trafficking. Another petition advocates for the preservation of bird habitats and stopping deforestation to protect bird populations. By supporting these petitions, you can contribute to the preservation of bird species and promote environmental sustainability. Join the movement to safeguard our feathered friends and raise awareness about the importance of bird conservation. Your involvement can make a difference in protecting these vital members of our natural world.
Maintaining traditional common names for birds, such as the Blue-footed Booby and Bushtit, as well as eponyms like Wilson's Warbler or Audubon's Shearwater, preserves cultural, historical, and scientific continuity. These names often carry unique stories or historical significance that connect people to nature and the history of ornithology. Changing names risks confusing both the scientific community and the public, disrupting long-standing educational materials and conservation efforts. While inclusivity and sensitivity are crucial in naming practices, careful consideration should balance these values with the need for consistency, historical context, and the emotional resonance that familiar names inspire in fostering a connection to wildlife.
Power lines, once in place in a well traveled wetland will kill birds for fifty, sixty, seventy years. Birds travel routes to wet lands daily. We know that they will used these routes daily for years and will be killed. Place the towers and high voltage lines away from know paths of travel for the birds. Birds have enough problems with habitat destruction and window strikes. We do not need to add a new hazard directly in a path we know they already use. Would you put a 4 lane highway through a children's playground. This idea is no less dangerous.
Fellow ex-petsmart employee. I often felt like the only one who truly cared for the animals well being. The store conure would often hangout on my shoulder during the day if it wasn’t too busy. I was also often praised for how well a job I did cleaning and caring for the animals but reprimanded for taking longer than the ~30-1hr allocated time to clean & feed those same animals. Even though part of that time was spent cutting up fruits and veggies while still dealing with idiotic customers (9/10 customers in were dumb to the point of asking if a hamster needed to be fed/touched daily and then wanting to purchase one for her 8yr old daughter with no preparation and then screaming at me as she left the store. I was 17 years old).
As a customer who goes to the store for Comet Goldfish care, it breaks my heart to see them unconscious and not putting them in hospital tanks. I don't want to see any dead fish.... Nor having to look behind closed doors...
(I'm in Bakersfield, a PetSmart is there.) Thank you for making this petition, you are a hero, a light shining in the dark. It's time to end this cruelty.
We have “rescued” 5 conures from store off of Knights Way. Horrible state these birds were in. I can’t believe they let kids bang on enclosure and out birds on lower level easier to reach. So many things are so sad about treatment of the conures. We are so happy to sign this petition ❤️
I have shared my life with parrots They are intelligent creatures who are not fully domesticated like cats and dogs. This bird deserves so much more and this situation is not at all adequate. My prayers that help will come before it is too late and the person keeping him in this manner needs to be educated so it doesn't happen again.
I own a Blue and Gold macaw that has lived with me over 20 years. Keeping a tropical parrot in open elements during cold Winter season can be fatal or cause sickness! And the small cage is not appropriate for a large parrot as they need mobility! I urge authorities in Netherlands to take this matter seriously and expedite a rescue of this suffering bird. It is obvious that the owner is irresponsible and is causing great harm to this innocent parrot. Please save this precious bird from these cruel conditions fast.
