Residents of Greene County need a shelter located in their own county. When I moved to this area, there was a shelter located in Athens, NY. That's where I got my first cat. I've learned from local animal rescuers that the Columbia Greene Humane Society has limited the number of kittens, etc that they can take on several occasions. Also, the drive is at least 30 minutes for most Greene County residents.

There are reputable rescues who will never kill an animal but provide it the second chance it so deserves. There is a family just waiting to give them a forever home. I am so sorry that Maggie's life never mattered to the SPCA. Where is the accountability? Agreed, an investigation is necessary.

It is OUR jobs to protect them. Each time an animal is euthanized, that is just one more time we FAILED, as a society and as humans. This baby should never have lost her life simply because her family did not take care of her! Shame on them and shame on the facility that took her life and just killed her. RIP Maggie! Run to that Rainbow Bridge, someone will be there for you!

Yes it is deplorable that th Banning Shelter was closed with NO ADEQUATE NO-KILL PLANS IN PLACE / I heard & testified at Banning City Council concerning this & begged they continue w/Amber or have a dependable caring substitute in place - I will b happy to assist w/petition signing -God bless & Merry Christmas!

I hope that city Council hears everyone’s words and they do open up another shelter. Animals really do need your help. it is horrible to see him out in the streets. There’s only so much that we can all do . I would like to say that if a shelter was to be opened up there, I would definitely volunteer my time to help.

Losing a rescue resource is not only a financial toll on animal services in each community, but it's also a toll on the community itself and those animals who'll have nowhere to go, but, a county shelter and quickly into a black plastic bag. We have so many stray loose rabbits here because our City and state are not acting swiftly and supporting rescue efforts. . . Don't make the same mistake California has.

The rescue is clean, and you can tell a lot of time is put into taking proper care of all the bunnies. Without this rescue I can't imagine where rabbits would go when they needed to be taken in. Most shelters don't take small or exotic animals in this area of Virginia. All 3 of my bunnies were well behind litter trained and used to weekly grooming/nail trims. You wouldn't well adjust rabbits in a shelter setting or from most breeders. She is doing great things for these bunnies.

There is no other shelter like this in Virginia that takes such good care of bunnies, advocates for them, and gives them space and love. It is extremely important to keep this shelter open!
