I grew up in Altadena and shocked to see what occurred. This should never happen again Regulations need to be approved that help the citizens who pay taxes to have their homes safe from rapid fire and communites protected.

Having building codes that allow Compressed Earth Block construction would is absolutely necessary for me.to achieve my goal and I therefore wholeheartedly and adamantly support this petition!

I believe this construction type could be so so helpful. Especially to folks living outside of more densely populated areas. Being in the line of wildfires, rather than compact residential areas, means there is a great benefit to being prepared with a fire resistant home. I am a resident of Santa Barbara currently but longtime resident of Chico, both of which have been hit hard by climate change driven fires, and so many homes could have stood a chance had they been earthen. As we approach a time that boarders on apocalyptic in regard to natural disasters, I urge our legislators to loosen the grip on traditional building practices. Creativity is a solution to our scariest problems in life. I believe deeply in this method as a means to help people.

What many may not know is that the Palisades Highlands was built with the current recommended fire prevention measures: double pane windows, stucco exterior with greater than one hour of fire rating, non-flammable roofs and enclosed eaves.
But when fires of this magnitude are raging at temperatures over 1000° (and in some cases up to 2000° because cast-iron tubs warped and gold rings melted),…wood timber framing is going to combust whether or not it’s directly exposed to flame.
We do not live in the same world we did 100 years ago, or even 50 years ago.
Our climate is changing, and our building methods need to change with it. We need to think beyond stick frame housing. This tragedy can also be an opportunity to rethink the way we build neighborhoods.
