EMBRACE OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE, MORE CHOICE FOR CONSUMERS.
The Issue
I really love Linux Mint—its interface is great, it’s secure, private, and highly customizable. But there’s one big issue: poor compatibility with Adobe and Autodesk software. Programs like GIMP, Krita, Darktable, and Kdenlive are decent, but they don’t match the polish and workflow of Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, or Premiere. Linux would be far more popular if Adobe products were supported, or if someone created fully compatible alternatives that could open the same project files. Wine and Proton should also be integrated into Linux Mint by default.
More user options mean more freedom to choose what works best. Windows 11’s strict hardware requirements are already pushing millions of perfectly good PCs toward e-waste, which is part of why Linux Mint is gaining attention. Microsoft’s aggressive tracking, performance-draining AI features, and increasingly cluttered interface are driving people away. So please—share Linux with your friends and encourage developers to support the platform. People shouldn’t have to spend $120 on bloated software with a frustrating UI and unwanted AI features.

Gimp is a lot more clunky compared to Photoshop.
