Petition to U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives
Pass Common Sense Gun Control
I am a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS, where the school shooting happened on 02/14/18. I am close friends with one of the victims and I want common sense gun control to be passed to prevent more families from losing loved ones in these terrible tragedies. I'm lucky that I was on the other side of the school when the shooting started and was evacuated quickly. Nick Cruz killed SEVENTEEN people, some who were freshman just starting their second semester of high school, others seniors who just committed to the colleges of their dreams. He took away their hopes and aspirations. He should not have been able to carry an assault rifle. We need to convince our elected officials that now is the time to speak up against the NRA and promote some form of gun control. They should not be worrying about how much money they will make or whether they will be re-elected. Innocent people are DYING because of gun violence. These children and heroes might be alive today. There’s a reason why other countries don’t have mass shootings and as a nation, we should work towards that. Please sign and share this petition with everyone you know. Nobody should have to face tragedies like this.

Make it Illegal for Congress to accept money from lobbyists such as the NRA.
STOP SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS FROM BUYING OUR LAWS! In light of the recent mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, any tolerance of waiting for Congress to act on stronger gun control laws for this country has been lost. One glaring reason why nothing has come to fruition on this issue, and many other issues in this country, is the shameful act of lobbyists rewarding our senators and representatives in Congress with large sums of money to influence our laws – or lack of them – in favor of their own special interest. The NRA, for example, is a gun lobby that pays out millions of dollars to our politicians to prevent gun control laws from going into effect, and pushes their own agenda (such as the present “conceal and carry” to make it legal to carry firearms in public places) – despite reports that more than half of Americans favor stricter legislation on gun control such as banning the sales of assault weapons, and at least 80% favor background checks. This hold over our politicians is largely due to the disastrous Supreme Court decision regarding Citizens United in 2010. But our Constitution states that “We the People” make up this country and our government is there to serve us. We elect these politicians into office to do what is right for us. Of course, we do not all agree on what is “right” – but isn’t the majority voice of the people more significant than a lobbyist /special interest group? Isn’t the safety of our people and our children paramount? It’s time to say enough is enough. Our laws are not for sale. Our lives are not for sale. Schools, places of worship, concert halls, movie theaters and other public places should not be places we fear to go. No lobbyist or special interest group should be permitted to “buy” the laws of our country. Only the American people should decide our political future – not the NRA, the oil companies, the pharmaceutical companies or any other lobbyists. Therefore, we sign this petition demanding legislation that it be declared illegal for Congress or those holding any political office to accept monetary compensation in any form from any lobbyist or special interest group, including for campaigning purposes. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/10/04/opinion/thoughts-prayers-nra-funding-senators.html?smid=fb-share http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/senate-races/274093-half-of-congress-have-received-nra-donations http://news.gallup.com/poll/220637/americans-widely-support-tighter-regulations-gun-sales.aspx

TrueCar, Drive Away From The NRA!
Founded in Los Angeles in the fall of 2017 after the mass shootings in Las Vegas and Texas, Drain The NRA is a grassroots movement that combats the gun lobby’s stranglehold on Congress by boycotting, protesting and encouraging divestment from the gun industry and its corporate partners and ultimately flipping the gun lobby's Congressional puppets. 93 Americans are killed by gun violence every day and 2017 is on record as the deadliest year for mass shootings in modern US history. We were dismayed to discover that TrueCar advertises on the NRA's website and offers its car buying services as a benefit to NRA members. By partnering with the NRA, TrueCar is aligning themselves with one of the nation’s most divisive lobbying organizations and by association endorsing the gun lobby's practices of halting sensible gun safety legislation, such as universal background checks and a ban on bump stocks, that would ultimately make our communities safer. Those who sign this petition are asking TrueCar to no longer advertise its services to NRA members and remove its page from the NRA website. We will boycott, protest and divest from TrueCar until it stands with the majority of Americans who want sensible gun safety laws and drives away from the NRA.

Ban Downloadable/Plastic Guns and Bullets
On July 31st, a United States Federal Judge blocked Cody Wilson and his organization, Defense Distributed from releasing their 3D printed gun blueprints. However, the judge did provide Wilson with other options, such as mailing USB drives with the information on them. In addition, Defense Distributed illegally released the blueprints to the public, days before they were scheduled to be granted permission. 3D printed guns are dangerous because they can be made on demand and can bypass security checkpoints undetected. Also, they have no serial number making the guns untraceable. Kids, felons, terrorists, abusers and mentally ill people could all get their hands on an unlimited amount of guns, without a single background check. A new startup has also appeared on multiple news stations because of their frightening and absurd goal. They want to give blueprints for 3D printable bullet proof vest penetrating bullets to the public at no cost. Not only is this dangerous for citizens of the United States but this organization going under the name, Atlas Arms is also anti government and encourages the bullets to be used to murder police officers. Safe Nation demands that a bill is passed, stating that all gun and bullet blueprints are illegal to be sold or given for free in the United States. If you agree, take a minute to sign the petition because every signature counts! Safe Nation is a student led organization fighting to end gun violence. It was founded in July, 2018 and has been fighting for gun violence ever since. Text @GUNFREE to 810-10 to subscribe to text message updates! REGISTER TO VOTE! Text @FUTURE to 644-33! Declare the NRA a supporter of domestic terrorism
The National Rifle Association (NRA) is more a political lobby than sportsmen's organization. It has spent over $3 million per year since 2013 to keep gun policies in an antiquated state despite the fact that more Americans have died from gun violence (over 1.5 million) than from all the wars since the Revolution, and now want some form of gun control. A sensible reading of the 2nd Amendment would restrict purchase of equipment designed for mass murder: large clips, military grade semi-and fully automatic rifles, and ammunition for the same, which could be as easily tracked as over-the-counter medication. Yet none of it will be regulated while the NRA effectively controls the GOP. While not a branch of government, the NRA has enormous impact on American life by coercing politicians and voters with money and intimidation, and restricting our safety and public health. Thousands have already signed another petition calling the NRA a terrorist organization, and the governor of Connecticut agrees. Former NRA CEO and multi-millionaire Wayne LaPierre has said that "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." As at Stoneman Douglas High, where three or four armed deputies waited outside during the shooting, this is rarely true and unfortunately doesn't help the shooter's victims. In Las Vegas, where over 500 people were shot with automatic gunfire, the shooter was inaccessible and shot himself before police arrived. In the wake of these horrific attacks the NRA mobilizes to enrich gun and ammo manufacturers while putting Americans at increasing risk of being shot. NRA's newly appointed CEO, Oliver North, infamously sold weapons to Iran to finance a covert Central American war under Reagan. This shows the cynicism and moral rot central to the organization; there is no reason to think they will ever act responsibly. Domestic terrorism is on the rise in the wake of Trump's election. White nationalist groups were eager to claim the shooter in Parkland as one of their own. The NRA facilitates both the arming and the militant ideology of these groups, supporting domestic terrorism. While right-wing politicians divert or attention with imagined threats from immigrants, the NRA does real harm to democracy, spreading anti-government hysteria and the idea of armed insurrection. The FBI should stop hesitating and brand the NRA for what it does rather than what it claims. This and other petitions aim to tarnish its reputation enough to interrupt its pernicious political influence. The victims of Santa Fe High (TX), Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, Fl), Sutherland Springs (11/5/17), Las Vegas (10/2/17), the 2016 Orlando shooting, Sandy Hook Elementary, Tree of Life Synagogue, and on and on and miserably on deserve no less. Please sign the MoveOn.org petition, another petition seeking to designate the NRA a terrorist organization under the Patriot Act, and support the Violence Policy Center.

Increase security in schools to prevent mass-shootings
I’m a high school student and I was terrified by footage of the Parkland school shooting I saw online. It was the seventh school shooting in our country since the beginning of the year. Insufficient school security is one reason why this keeps happening – that’s why I started a petition to change that. This time, a former student named Nikolas Cruz opened fire on his old classmates, murdering seventeen and injuring many others – and they never saw it coming. The shooting continued for an extended period of time before any police officer showed up to stop him. How could this have been stopped? I believe we need more federal funding directed to schools for security measures like recruiting more officers to be placed in our schools. We can prevent dangerous people from gaining access to our schools. We can add things like bulletproof windows and metal detectors. Basic safety measures make sense for schools everywhere. You can add your name to this petition to speak out and demand action. We’ve grown accustomed to a cycle where we mourn for a few weeks and post a social media status on how sad and tragic these events are. But what will we actually DO as Americans to stop this? We need to demand real change from our leaders so that these victims don’t become another hashtag and statistic – only to be forgotten until the next mass shooting event. Please sign this petition calling on our Congress to provide funds to support better security at our schools and protect students, like me.
