For many years, I, like countless other hardworking citizens, have dedicated my life to this country, contributing to its growth and prosperity through our hard-earned wages and taxes.

Upon reaching the age of retirement, however, people find themselves facing an unexpected hardship.

As they are heading into their golden years, they find the support they need increasingly fleeting. This is the time people ought to enjoy the fruits of their lifelong dedication, not worry about making ends meet. 

For this reason, we beseech the Labour Government to reaffirm its commitment to supporting pensioners in the upcoming October Budget.

It has been reported that more than one in six pensioners, approximately 1.9 million older people, live below the poverty line due to inadequate pension fund allocations (Annual Pensioner Income series—Department for Work and Pensions, 2021).

This is a clear indication that changes are necessary to protect the financial stability and overall wellbeing of our aging population.

By revising the budget to allow for more generous pension packages, the Government can make a significant, positive impact on the quality of life for seniors.

Moreover, such changes can provide reassurance and financial security to the millions currently in the workforce who will become pensioners in the future. 

In conclusion, we implore the Labour Government to treat this matter with the urgency and gravity it deserves, and act promptly to ensure our pensioners are well taken care of in the October Budget.
