Petition to Adam B. Schiff, Eric Garcetti, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Gavin Newsom, Xavier Becerra, Jackie Lacey, Kamala D. Harris, Kevin de Leon, Laura Friedman, Holly Mitchell, Susan Rubio
Due to domestic violence, I recently lost a wonderful friend, Dr. Amie Harwick. She was murdered as a result of poorly written laws that do not protect the victims and properly punish the offenders. I refuse to let her death be in vain. She was a Doctor in the Mental Health Field and advocate in the community. We need to do the same and advocate for Amie. So I am launching JUSTICE 4 AMIE!
Amie had a restraining order in place against a violent ex boyfriend she dated over a decade ago. The restraining order had expired before her untimely death. In the last week of January 2020, this ex boyfriend attended an event, at which she was making an appearance, and continued his harassment of her. He began to stalk her thereafter and on late Valentine's night decided to attack her in her own home. This man clearly needed treatment, incarceration and/or punishment for years prior to this attack. She should have never been in this situation like so many other victims. The process to get a restraining order is very difficult, traumatizing and must be repeated when the restraining order expires. With this in mind I believe the laws and statues need to be re-written as follows:
1. No expiration date or a longer protection term and to not be lifted until victim requests it to be cancelled.
2. Mandatory affirmative obligation for long term counseling for the stalker/abuser if a restraining order is violated even a minor offense. If they are deemed a harm to the victim or society, then institutionalization may be ordered.
3. Victims should not have to testify in a courtroom close to their abuser/stalker. There should be an option to live stream in a safe space in a satellite location for the hearing with the judge. It's a traumatic experience that the victim is already dealing with and should not be subjected to it again if they do not feel they can. That is why many abusers get away with their actions: many victims back out of trial due to fear of facing their perpetrator.
4. Just like sex offenders, a National Restraining Order Registry should be made to warn others of offenders that have restraining orders. There can be levels just like Sex Offender Registry. A national database so that you can look up an individual and see if they have multiple restraining orders out on them. It is very difficult to search an individual now to determine if they have had more than one Restraining Order without knowing the Victim etc.
5. Financial Abuse by Abusers is very serious and is another major reason why most victims find it difficult to leave their abuser. Identity Theft since the abuser may have all the personal and financial information of the victim. Their Credit Scores ruined by partners running up charges and not paying their debts to hurt the victim. Coercive Abuse.
UPDATE for 5. - SUPPORT SENATE BILL 1141 by Senator Rubio who is currently pushing for Legislation on this matter in California.
6. Free access to Attorneys just like criminals have free access to public defenders. A victim should not have to bear the legal fees that are incurred when seeking protection.
7. The personal addresses of anyone should be blocked from public access and remain private per individuals request. Voter Registration and Business Registration is an easy way to access someone's personal home information which gives Stalkers and Abusers access to the victim's home address. Privacy matters!
UPDATE for 7. = https://www.sos.ca.gov/registries/safe-home/
8. Supporting Current Bills to pass like
SACRAMENTO, CA – Sen. Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) has introduced Senate Bill 1141, which will expand legal protections for survivors of domestic violence by criminalizing threats, humiliation, intimidation, and other coercive actions that are used to frighten and control a victim.
SB 1141 makes coercive control a crime punishable by imprisonment in jail not to exceed one year, or by imprisonment in the state prison, or by a fine not exceeding $1,000. The bill defines coercive control as the deprivation or violation of the victim’s personal liberty, which can be established through a course of conduct including force, duress, isolation, or economic abuse. Examples of coercive control include controlling a person’s finances; isolating a person from family and friends; and monitoring a person’s day-to-day activities.
“Current domestic violence laws do not reflect how domestic violence is practiced in reality,” Sen. Rubio said. “The new crime of coercive control recognizes that domestic violence encompasses more than just physical abuse. This change protects survivors of domestic violence by making their cases harder to dismiss and easier to prosecute.”
“SB 1141 authored by Sen. Rubio recognizes that domestic violence is not limited to physical violence,” said Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer, the bill’s sponsor. “This legislation addresses the very real harm of coercive control and strengthens the State’s protections for domestic violence survivors.”
England, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland have had coercive control laws for several years, encouraging changes in how their societies view individual acts of violence as part of a broader pattern of abuse. The unique harms suffered by domestic violence survivors occurs as much from the deprivation of liberty achieved through a pattern of power and control as it does from discrete physical acts of violence.
If anyone has any other ideas, we would love to hear them.
People shouldn't have to die to make changes. As she helped countless numbers of other people in life, we need to use Amie’s passing as a catalyst for change. So her family, friends, and loved ones’ pain from her death is not in vain.
Enough is Enough.
1 in 4 will experience severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
1 in 3 women will experience rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
3 women a day are killed by domestic violence.

Petition to United States National Science Foundation, University of Central Florida
Dec 1, 2020 Update:
On the morning of December 1, 2020, the Arecibo Observatory's suspended platform collapsed, smashing through the telescope's dish and eliminating any chances for its repair. We have lost Puerto Rico's science icon, which held scientific, educational, economic, and cultural importance.
However, we are now petitioning the United States government to build a new radio telescope in Arecibo - a newer, more modern observatory for conducting cutting-edge research in astronomy and atmospheric sciences. The new Arecibo Observatory will support the United States' leading role in scientific innovation and inspire future generations of students and scientists.
Thank you for your continued support, and please sign the White House petition to Rebuild the Arecibo Observatory here: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/rebuild-arecibo-observatory?fbclid=IwAR3OptGzl2bcjJQflAf6irAP7I9rOD7_7zr-IA409I5PzuJ73Rm_I-nyoJc
---The Arecibo Observatory radiotelescope, located in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, is the world’s second largest radiotelescope. Since its founding in 1963, it has played a pivotal role in astronomy, as it has been extensively used to study systems such such as planets, asteroids, pulsars, and dwarf stars, as well as to search for signs of extraterrestrial life.
In addition to all of the groundbreaking research that has been conducted and continues to take place at Arecibo, the Observatory has become an essential component of education and science for Puerto Rico and the United States, and it is a source of inspiration for young students to explore and study sciences. The Observatory employs more than 120 people, and every year around 200 scientists and many graduate students visit the facilities to conduct research projects. Additionally, over 100,000 people from all over the world visit the Observatory’s Visitor Center every year, with 30% of them being students; the Observatory is also home to educational, professional development, and science communication programs and workshops for teachers, students, and college students. All of this strongly underscores the importance the Observatory has for science, education, economy, and for diversity and inclusion efforts.
In August of 2020, one of the telescope’s support cables detached, and on November 6 a second cable broke while the delivery of auxiliary cables to address the first incident was being arranged. On November 19, the National Science Foundation announced it had decided to decommission the telescope instead of repairing it, and that it would begin preparations for the decommissioning and demolition over the coming weeks.
The Arecibo Observatory is an iconic feat of engineering and it is of incredible scientific and cultural importance not only to the scientific community but also to students, teachers, and the general community in Puerto Rico and the world. Therefore, we are urging the United States National Science Foundation to repair, and not to decommission, the telescope. For over 55 years, the Arecibo Observatory has been a source of scientific knowledge and of inspiration to countless people, and we must act to preserve it for future generations.

Quick Summary: http://globalnews.ca/news/1845754/what-ontarios-new-sex-ed-curriculum-teaches-in-grades-1-through-12/_ _ _
Many ill-informed voices are taking over the social media sphere. Fueled by a ridiculous protest to pull kids out of school, there is an attempt to persuade public opinion and roll us back to a curriculum made before most of us had access to the internet [1].
What's at stake here is our kids learning the body of scientific and psychological knowledge we've researched and gained in the past two decades. This education is meant to protect our children from sexual harassment, sexual assault [2], unwanted pregnancies, and sexually transmitted infections [3].
Those parents do have a choice and no one is stopping them from removing their kids from sex education classes. But public policy should be that every student deserves access to sex education, an education that just so happens to protect those equipped with the knowledge.
The fact of the matter is we're living in the internet age, the holes in our education will have our young kids searching on Google, and some of those search results will be flat out incorrect information. So I ask who would you like teaching our kids: properly equipped and respectful teachers who are our neighbours, friends, and family; or having our kids learn from the internet which could be from anyone, misinformed, and from anywhere. The third option, regrettably, is our children go off doing something preventable and having to suffer the consequences.#SupportSexEdVideo Update 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp45UsXGFRs

Update: we know enough since this petition was first sent out. Santos should resign.
It has come to light from a New York Times investigative piece, that newly elected GOP Representative George Santos has allegedly falsely represented where he went to school, where he worked, that he formed a non-profit and that his family owns real estate. Other information that came to light is that he was charged in Rio De Janairo with stealing a checkbook and using it to buy shoes.
Santos needs to be investigated by the appropriate authorities as there is no question that he will not do the right thing and resign.

New Mexico Governor Michelle Luján Grisham[UPDATE] - Since creating the original petition below, New Mexico is now at nearly 1800 cases with over 50 deaths. And this is not over. In addition many New Mexicans are even more strapped economically as stimulus checks have not arrived and self-employed and gig workers are not receiving any inemployment help - even though they, too, are tax payers. While we applaud and agree with Governor Lujan Grisham's many efforts to keep us safe, we respectfully ask that she respond to this petition and help We The People. If we do not get in front of the economic downturn from COVID-19, the the economic fallout will last much longer than the virus.[Original Petition Text] - The coronavirus COVID-19 has been classified as a global pandemic. New Mexico currently has at least 28 cases statewide, and with testing underway, it is a certainty that number will multiple. State and federal officials are encouraging people who feel sick to stay home, but many workers already struggle to make rent or mortgage payments. You yourself have rightly taken measures to limit and/or shut down businesses. Self-employed and small business owners are under incredible stress. The choice to skip work or close ther business for the sake of community health could leave them and their families unsheltered.
In order to protect the health and housing security of our community, we, the undersigned, call on Governor Luján-Grisham to act now so workers and small businesses won't have to make that choice. Specifically, we call for a suspension of all rent, mortgage, and utility payments for at least 2 full months to allow people to do what they need to in order to take care of themselves, their loved ones, and the community.
The legacy of every public official currently serving will be determined in the next few months.
It's time to act now, and choose the right side of history. Choose the people.Read more

Little River Corridor Bike Park
We did it!! Thanks to everyone who’s helped and contributed, the pump-track is IN!!! Now, we're going for more. After many years, the endless cycle of teardowns and rebuilds could finally be coming to an end.
Due to overuse of the pumptrack, the increased demand for cycling trails and by our sheer will to ride, a new spot has been proposed to build on. Refer to the image above to see how close in proximity this new bike park would complement the existing pump track.
In the Fall of 2021, a grass-roots organization was formed from the dust of the torn down jump park from 2017. With the experience and knowledge gained through their amateur trail-building practices, this group of young people decided to take their build skills to the next level. Together, they formed the Windsor-Essex Bike Community (WEBC) and submitted a proposal to the city that will include features capable of satisfying all skill levels. This new spot would maintain a professional standard, and be free to ride for everyone.
Now that the city has shown their support and interest, WEBC is now prepared to accept donations from the community to help see this project come to fruition. All plans for the build will be provided, and a high level of transparency will be exercised. Rest assured - we want more to ride, and we know how bad the Windsor-Essex biking scene needs a place to call their own.
We want to know what you think! Your input is valuable - leave a comment with your thoughts on this project!
Love,
WEBC team

This bike park was built by hand for all to enjoy, yet the city tears it down time and time again. All of the jumps are built with the goal of safe and enjoyable riding for everyone. This place is a social hub where numerous relationships are made. It is also a sanctuary for those who want time to escape their problems. Tearing this place down will break many hearts and keep kids indoors even more. Most of the kids have spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on new bikes, parts and helmets in preparation for the coming summer. Please sign the petition, these kids don't deserve to lose this place.
