    Preserving America!

I have loved the ocean ever since I was little. Now, I'm 14 years-old and I am worried about a new bill which threatens our environment and marine animals. This bill will make it easier for oil companies to drill on public lands and chips away at regulations to protect marine animals. Sign my petition to say no to the fossil fuel industry’s attack on marine animals and our environment. The Strengthening the Economy with Critical Untapped Resources to Expand American Energy Act, or the SECURE American Energy Act would greatly expand access to fossil fuels and endanger marine animals. By chipping away at the Marine Mammal Act, this bill would make it easier for oil companies to hurt dolphins, whales, manatees and other marine animals in the process of drilling. If you want to save what is left of America and take the next step forward, please sign this petition. The bill would also threaten public lands that we all benefit from – whether as hikers, tourists, or just as people on this planet. We Americans care too much about our environment to lose it. We must preserve it for future generations so they too can participate in the recreational activities that are available to us. I am not scared or hopeless because I am a kid. I believe anyone can do anything if they strongly believe in their cause – will you join us?

    Petition to Charlottetown Planning Council

    Preserving Our Waterfront

Charlottetown Waterfront Development Further to the recent newspaper articles on the future development of the Charlottetown waterfront; we the residents of Renaissance Place have concerns specifically about the proposed eight (8) storey steel and concrete structure planned for the Charlottetown waterfront. Our concerns are focused in 4 specific areas, which are; the environment, traffic flow and safety, community impacts and legal implications. We feel the city and its councillors have not given full consideration in these area. Environment: Was an environmental assessment completed on this project? A building so close to the water does not appear to consider the latest scientific data with regard to climate change Scientists at the UPEI Science Lab have developed a tool called “Clive” that simulates the effects of erosion and sea level increases over time …. We would like this tool to be applied to this project. Traffic and Safety: What plan is in place for traffic patterns during construction, for future residents of the 99 unit structure, for visitors to the art gallery, for citizens walking the waterfront and finally for the residents of Renaissance Place. Has there been an impact study completed on traffic flow - in particular during the construction phase, ( how long will that last ), noise impacts on the residents of Renaissance Place, and traffic flow on lower Water Street? What consideration has been given to ambulance and fire access services? Community Impacts: It states in the Charlottetown Official Plan, “Our objective is to preserve important view planes to and from Charlottetown Harbour, and to enhance the landscaping, tree planting, and street furniture program for the waterfront area.” The proposed structure will eliminate the last green area along the boardwalk and destroy several beautiful mature trees. The proposed concrete and steel structure is not compatible with lower Water Street and the surrounding area. The heritage view was not considered! • Was consideration/consultation given to the residents of the area? Legal Implications: Apparently, the Planning Committee has awarded bonus points for access to the boardwalk. What authority permitted this bonus awarding process? How have the property easement and provincial setbacks from the water been addressed? The proposed structure exceeds the allowable apartment building height - • Pan American ( Tim Banks ) claims in an article in the Guardian on May 5, 2020 “ like anything else that’s put on the market place, it opens up vacancy to make vacancy higher, reduces rent and makes things more competitive.” How does this luxury apartment building help the rental markets, when he further states rents will be 15% higher than the premium building next door? Therefore, how does this address the affordable housing crisis in Charlottetown? While we understand the work city council does on behalf of the residents of Charlottetown, we feel signing it off following a 17 minute meeting is not sufficient time to consider (all) of the aspects of this major project. Further, these and other concerns could be addressed at a public consultation and meetings. Our understanding of the role of public officials/councillors includes fostering trust, listening to citizens and transparency. Signed by adhoc committee members. Red Clay Reopening - Preserving Our Future?

The Red Clay school district announced its Phase 2 plan for reopening schools on Friday, September 25. The two options available include using a new online platform (Accelerate Education) or an in-person option. The primary concern about the online option is that many classes that students are currently enrolled in are not offered in Accelerate Education (i.e. many AP classes, arts classes, etc.). Another huge concern is that the online option is completely asynchronous (i.e. completely independent and self-directed learning with no real-time interaction with teachers or teacher assistance), which is not an effective way for most students to learn.    While the in-person option may be better for many families, there are still many unanswered questions. Since class size will be limited for safety reasons, there is no assurance that high school students will be guaranteed the classes and/or teachers that they have currently.  On the other hand, the in-person option is not available to all students, leaving some students forced to take the online option.   We feel strongly that the “options” provided in this reopening phase do not comprise the education we were promised from Red Clay and fall far short of fulfilling the needs of our students.  We strongly recommend that Red Clay maintains its teaching practices from the first marking period. Although we recognize that these practices are less than ideal, we feel that this reopening plan would take us from something that is imperfect to something far worse, where students are not assured that they would get the same teachers or classes in an in-person setting, and many of the classes are not available online.  We urge the Red Clay school board to reconsider their Phase 2 options and allow schools to continue with their existing virtual plan.

First Step in Preserving Rainforests and Rescuing Child Slaves from Palm Oil Production

Hello! I am an 9th grader from Woodside High School in Woodside, CA. Like many, I enjoy eating processed junk food every once in a while, even though they may be unhealthy. Despite being mouthwatering, an ingredient that is found in almost every single one of these products is tied to child slavery, ecosystem degradation, slash and burn agriculture, and orangutan habitats destruction. The ingredient? Palm oil. Every minute, rain forest lands equivalent to the size of 5 football fields are cut down to make way for palm oil production. Tens of millions of tons of palm oil are produced each year. It is found in 40%-50% of household products, and lots of food products too. But even on the ingredient list, its presence is invisible. It is labeled as 'vegetable oil.' The process of planting African oil palms requires burning huge swaths of rain forest, releasing carbon that has been in these rain forests for hundreds of years. This deforestation is the reason why the Sumatran Tiger and the Sumatran Elephant are on the verge of extinction, along with the Orangutan. In 1997 through 1998, a palm oil production started wildfire swept through Sumatra and Borneo, wiping out 1/3 of the global Orangutan population. The second reason why palm oil is extremely important to get out of food is that it is very cancerous. Because palm oil is found in many foods that are consumed by children, adults, seniors, and even babies daily, this is a serious public health and safety issue. The last reason why palm oil should be taken out of our foods is that the production of palm oil is tied to child slavery and enslaving indigenous peoples. Palm oil executives enslave the indigenous people of the jungles they want to clear, and they and their children are worked to exhaustion in shocking and dangerous conditions, only for the profit of the palm oil executives. This petition is asking that all products with palm oil in them list it clearly on the product. This is "step one" in taking palm oil out of our products.  If you want to protect beautiful species that are on the brink of extinction, protect you and you family from harmful products in your food, stop child slavery, and help save our planet, this is one step towards that goal.

    Petition to Indian Government

    Preserving ecosystem by natural farming

'Taking good care of the soil' means agriculture.Over the years, ecological diversity has been exploited by monoculture in the need to grow more food thinking about the only  human being as the sole beneficiary. Research has proved that after approx. 13 years of continuous incremental chemical fertilizers/pesticides usage, the output has ultimately fallen. The so called 'Green revolution' proved to be neither green nor a revolution.Due to such selfish interest, majority of our land has been used only for single crop (monoculture).Hence, there is a need to encourage multi-cropping and multi-layer farming techniques which not only preserve/nurture biodiversity but also provide nutritional food for animals, birds, human being and other species on this planet.Experts in organic farming claim 6 times more output compared to current chemical based farming implemented by farmers.Consumers need to understand that they have to eat what farmers produce and not vice versa. With the current farming techniques we will ultimately  render all soil infertile thus hampering our own existence on this planet leaving nothing for the next generations.Hence, the government should intervene.

    Preserving Filipino Culture

The culture of the Philippines comprises a blend of traditional Filipino and Spanish Catholic traditions, with influences from America and other parts of Asia. The Filipinos are family oriented and often religious with an appreciation for art, fashion, music and food. Thus, filipino culture must be preserved for it is very important for our children and it will help an individual to establish an identity. It is very important for our children today to acquire proper values as they grow older because the world that we live on today is full of temptations that could possibly ruin your children's future.  It will help an individual to establish an identity. Keeping religious traditions alive helps to maintain a sense of connection to the past, as many religious traditions have been alive for centuries. Overall, Filipino culture is very important for our children for it helps to promote good values and right conduct for both young children  and future generations. it will help an individual  establish an identity for a better life, better world and for a better future.
