Save our World! Plastic is damaging planet Earth

For some 79 per cent of the plastic produced over the last 70 years has been thrown away, either into landfill sites or into the general environment. Just nine per cent is recycled with the rest incinerated.    How much plastic is in the sea? With more than eight million tonnes going into the oceans every year, it is estimated there will be more plastic than fish by 2050 and 99 per cent of all the seabirds on the planet will have consumed some. It is thought the sea now contains some 51 trillion microplastic particles – 500 times more than stars in our galaxy.    Is it dangerous! Some plastic is toxic and it can disrupt hormones crucial for a healthy existence. Even when it is not dangerous itself – or not known to be – plastic acts like a magnet for a range of other poisons and pollutants we have spilled into the natural world. To sea turtles, plastic bags in the water can look like jellyfish, floating on the surface plastic can appear to be a tasty snack for a seagull, based on millennia of experience, and to baby perch it appears more appetising than the plankton they are supposed to eat. Unsurprisingly, gulping down all this indigestible poison instead of food is bad for their health. So far, it is known that marine litter harms more than 600 species amid what some regard as the beginning of the sixth mass extinction of life on Earth.   What's being done about it? The world is, finally, starting to wake up to the problem. United Nations announced it had “declared war on ocean plastic”. Thirty countries have now joined the UN’s CleanSeas campaign, including the UK, Canada, France, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, Brazil, Norway, Italy, Costa Rica, Kenya and Peru. The US, China, Russia and Japan have not.   Plastic may also be contaminating the air we breathe. Plastic microparticles from cosmetics and microfibers from synthetic clothes are washed into the sewage system. While many pass through treatment plants and end up in the sea, others particles are caught up in sewage used to fertilise farmers’ fields. After it dries out, it may get picked up by the wind and blown about.   #SAVEOURWORLD We can start preserving our environment in our home. We can plant some trees in our backyard, we can pick some garbage and throw it on the proper place, and we can reuse and recycle some objects to be more useable. We must save our Mother Earth before it is too late. We need to keep in our mind that " Prevention is always better than cure." So be one of us, support this petition to make a change.

President Duterte should RETRACT his damaging statements on the WPS

We the people of the Philippines, hereby demand that President Rodrigo Duterte RETRACT his statements that - The July 12, 2016 Arbitral Award is just a scrap of paper that deserves to be thrown to the wastebasket; The Chinese fishermen can fish in the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone in the West Philippine Sea; and China is in possession of the West Philippine Sea. These statements are contrary to the Constitution, waive our sovereign rights under the Arbitral Award and even concede to China possession of the West Philippine Sea when in fact China is not physically and legally in possession of the West Philippine Sea.

Ban the use of coral damaging sunscreen in Mauritius

The ocean is part of our identity in Mauritius and the coral reefs are part of that ecosystem. The corals face existential threats from pollution, fishings and bleaching. Tourists and Mauritians alike enjoy the corals and the corals play an essential role on our planet. Jobs and our tourist industry rely on the corals. We would like to sunscreen containing oxybenzone and octinoxate prohibited from sale and entry to Mauritius.

Save Eco Systems from damaging Developers in Diamond Creek

Feeling very concerned for the little valley behind us which is home to a mob of around 20 kangaroos and their joeys, a mass of native birdlife, several types of frogs that we enjoy hearing each evening, native orchids and flax lillies as well as carnivorous plants - just to name a few. This morning we woke to Black Cockatoos feeding in the Wattle trees. It has come to our attention that the current owner of the site between Collard Drive and Herbert's Rise estate in Diamond Creek, has stated that he had a permit to dump 100,000 cubic meters of fill dumped in the middle of the valley. This will decimate the frog population - of which I have been able to identify at least seven different types of call, and the access to drinking water from the water course-dam for the native wild life. The dumping of the dirt is to make the valley more sale-able to future purchasers. It will become a desolate moonscape like other estates that this developer has created. The estate we are on has managed to maintain some original trees, but it was largely open paddock. The little valley is full of beautiful trees that the council had to document as the developer was poisoning and ripping them out without permission. He was taken to court by the Nillumbik Shire and given a large fine. Further investigation with Council Planners have indicated that a permit has not been granted for developing 67 house blocks yet, but they are fully aware of this developer's tactics. 'Devastate first, pay the fines later!' The aim is to preserve some of this little ecosystem if the development goes ahead, and for council to be vigilant on enforcing their Environmental overlay.

    YouTube’s damaging new algorithm!

The current state of YouTube is dreary and does not look good. Creators have been forced to suffer for their passions! YouTube’s new algorithm has destroyed their platform in a big way. People are afraid to upload videos they worked for a decent amount of time on.  They are afraid to upload because they are worried one or more words will trigger the “not suitable for all advertisers” bot. It has got to stop, so many people have complained and YouTube refuses to acknowledge there is anything wrong with their new system.  What little information they do give is vague, copied and pasted. This is hurting people’s bottom lines. Once this platform was one where you could achieve success at being a creative person.  But now you try your damndest and all you get is your Adsense revenue sliced in half if not more. With this petition I hope to achieve a message is sent to YouTube. To do away with this completely and revert back to the older ways of doing things. Not as corporate, not as “advertiser friendly.” Just people doing what they love and getting compensated fairly when they have earned it.

Stop the promotion of climate-damaging fossil fuels

The marketing, advertising, PR and media industries must stop promoting activities that are increasing greenhouse gas pollution and putting us on a path to a dangerous climate. As the major industry bodies (Public Relations Institute of Aust, International Association of Business Communicators, Aust. Association of National Advertisers, Association for Data-driven Marketing and Advertising, Media Federation of Aust.) we ask that you collectively accept the climate science and stop enabling those who are actively working to increase emissions such as fossil fuel lobby groups and their members.  We ask you to urgently: publicly acknowledge the climate crisis commit to an industry target of 45-65% emissions reductions by 2030 and net zero by 2050 create greater understanding about greenwashing, climate minimisation and misdirection encourage greater transparency and accountability around fossil fuel promotions We note that several other industry groups, including the Australian Medical Association, Business Council of Australia, Australian Institute of Architects and National Farmers Federation, have publicly voiced their support for climate action. If the marketing, media, communications and advertising industries are to be respected, ethical and on the right side of history, they must acknowledge their role in the promotion of high emissions industries and take decisive action to address it.
