Petition to City of Lilburn, Gwinnett County
Lets Get The Greenway Flooding Corrected
I am asking you all to join in so we can get something very dangerous in our park fixed. This has affected not only my family personally, but countless others we have spoken to about these issues in Lilburn. Dozens of people have stepped up to tell us their stories; cuts, bruises, broken ribs, and more. How this has continued without any forward thinking changes is beyond my understanding. We love Gwinnett Parks and brag about them often, so the condition of this trail seems to misalign with the standards we have seen with parks throughout our county and city. Over the years my family and I have run the Lilburn Greenway path many times. We know exactly where it will flood after a rain, and which areas are the worst. For many years we simply ignored these patches of mud and accepted them as quirks on our trail system. It wasn't until this weekend that we truly recognized the extraordinary danger these spots pose. Specifically one over all the others is what I hope to grab your attention regarding. The section I am referring to is the underpass for Rockbridge. The amount of mud that collects and has nowhere to go is insufferable. To add, when you are leaving Lions Club heading to Lilburn City Park you come down a steep hill which gives you speed, then you find yourself coming into a blind curve that leads straight into that treacherous area. Over the years we have seen “band-aids” for this issue, instead of addressing it head on. A rubber mat, rocks being placed, ravines being dug up, and a slippery when wet sign added. None of these are anywhere near efficient for this flooded issue. Beyond the immediate danger it imposes, it is not accessible for anyone with a disability or our elderly neighbors. Our six year old son with disabilities crumbled into a pile of mud and blood this weekend in that spot. This is absolutely unacceptable. This area is known by both the city and county, and nothing has been done. No plans to change this issue that we have been made aware of or communicated. His accident could have been avoided. It was by no fault of his own that he sustained the injuries he did. To make it worse for this little boy, that bike ride was one of so much triumph and success. As a six year old with a number of special needs we worked so hard, over many years of grueling physical therapies, to get him where he is today. He was riding his bicycle and for him and our family that is huge. A fete we thought would not come to our little boy, with both hypoplastic left heart syndrome and cerebral palsy. To say he overcame a mountain to do a simple rite of passage such as riding a bicycle is an understatement. A proud, heavily celebrated moment was ripped away from our family, by a spot that should not be there. To see him emerge from the mud, his arm dripping in blood, and the look of absolute defeat could have and should have been avoided. The scripted response that our community has received from officials like: “this is built on a floodplain” or, “boardwalks are expensive”, and “there's nothing more that can be done other than clearing out the mud after a storm” is unsatisfactory and quite unsettling. These seem like responses that seek to brush this issue under the rug because it means time and money. Well, I can tell you that dozens, if not hundreds of people are beginning to step up and let their voices be heard. It is enough, and we are coming together to let our elected officials and leadership know we demand change. Beyond what it means personally for our family, this could be so much worse. While documenting the area he crashed in, we watched runners come up to the flood, fail to get around it, only to climb up the wall and cross over Rockbridge. This should be deemed intolerable and alarming by the Parks Department and any city or county official once brought to their attention. This is a recipe for disaster, and I hope it does not take a life severely injured or lost for something to be done. Its time the city and county alike here our wishes and concerns. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. We love our trail and want to see it succeed.
Petition to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
Mistakes ought to be corrected
We all know that in India, every student studying in a CBSE school has to pass Board Exams in 10th and 12th class. What is the aim of examinations? It is to tell the students about their mistakes so that they can correct them and not do so again. What is the point of Board Exams if we don't get to know our mistakes. We just get a number that determines our understanding about those concepts. What about the concepts and points where we went wrong?! And guess what? To know our mistakes, we have to pay a certain sum of money to the board so that we get a PDF of our answer script. The teacher assigned to check the papers is also a human. There can be few mistakes. And, to correct those mistakes, we have to pay 100 rupees for every question. I know that the teacher checking the papers has to be given money to do his/her work. But, if we think of the poor people in India, their children will never be able to know what they did wrong. And that is because they don't have the money to do so. So, just sit and lock this thing in your mind that you did a mistake somewhere, you don't know where. Just live with this fact and move on. That's a great way now isn't it? This is certainly unfair.

Let The Punishment Fit The Crime
*Phần Tiếng Việt ở bên dưới. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter” (Martin Luther King Jr.). According to the Australian Institution of Criminology 1993, one in three girls are sexually abused and one in five boys shared the same condition. I couldn’t ignore anymore when I saw the penalty send out to the sexual terrorists in Vietnam. N.A.T was ten when she was sexually assaulted by Thuy Khac Nguyen. But she wasn't the only one, there were three more victims. Things are supposed to be easy since the prosecutor already have enough evidence to send him to jail. The problem was his jail time. In July 2016 the mother of one of the victims accused Nguyen of sexual harassment to her eight years old daughter. She also accused him of other inappropriate behaviors to others victims. Through investigation, the police had had enough evidence to accused him with two young girls (they were 15 and 10 years old) sexual harassment. Everybody was talking about the case, how the judges have put out the wrong penalty. This man first trial make him served three years; but then in the second trial, he was sentenced to eighteen months on probation. Because of that, the social media gone wild demanded another trial. Then thanks to the power of the public Nguyen had his third trial, he was charged with child sexual harassment but only served three years. This doesn't justify. Now we have the opportunity to fix that and I want to do everything in my power to make it right. You don't get to touch young girls and get away with it. They are too young to stand up for themselves; especially when they are still afraid of what society may think, so WE HAVE TO STAND UP FOR THEM. What the abusers did was more than “harassment”, it’s sexual terrorism. These people terrorize our girls’ and boys’ mentally and physically. Their action changes these children’s life forever, it can’t be undone. While their action has a negative effect why don't we use our action to make a positive outcome so that justice can be served? This was just one of hundreds and thousands of cases has been and will be mistreated. According to the law in Vietnam, child sexual harassment only served from six months to three years. While the public was furious with the judges, I found out that the inefficiency of the law was the main problem. No punishment can ever be enough but in this way, at least the abusers get what they deserve. Justice can be served when and only when we take action. Innocence was lost, childhood has been destroyed. These girls and boys can be your friends, your children, your sisters, your brothers. We cannot let this injustice happen any longer. As a teenage girl, I was hoping to share this with everyone because the first thing to fix a problem is to acknowledge it. We are living in the time where robbery sentence is as long as child sexual abuse. I'm hoping to get as much attention as I can get to change this injustice system. Let the punishment fit the crime.

Petition to Narendra Modi ji, Shri Kiren Rijiju ji, Shri G.Kishan Reddy
CENTRAL LAW FOR AUTONOMOUS SYSTEM OF HINDU SCHOLARS FOR HINDU TEMPLES’ ADMINISTRATION
To Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi ji. Honorable Minister of State for Culture, Shri Kishan Reddy ji, Honorable Minister of Law & Justice, Shri Kiren Rijiju ji, Dear Sirs, On behalf of millions of devotees from the Global Hindu communities, who considers their temples as means to worship the God - the Almighty, we humbly request your attention to the following to affect the creation of a proper system for the service, maintenance & preservation of Hindu temples, temple assets, temple customs, temple arts, knowledge on Thantra-Mantra-Yantra etc associated with temples, learning, teaching & propagation of Vedas, Upanishads, other scriptures and numerous other tenets of Hindu Religious & Cultural life. It is further humbly requested that the Constitutional guidelines and laws may be reviewed if required to effect a timely constructive change. 1. A new system for the service & maintenance of Hindu temples has to be developed and implemented at the earliest, considering the historical backdrop that led to the present state of affairs and by ensuring no intervention of secular government and politicians in Hindu temple affairs, noting that they are not intervening in Christian Church and Muslim Mosque affairs. 2. This system should ensure that the numerous ancient Hindu temples in India are properly, effectively and meaningfully preserved and utilized for the purposes for which it is intended and not just for purposes of tourism development and commercial benefits. As we all know, the prime purpose of temples are not to promote commercial tourism. 3. At present, the temple assets and its affairs at large, are taken care by the bodies set up by the secular government which are a mixture of government officials and political nominees. It is evident that these personnel are the key decision makers in the affairs of temples about which they are not really conversant enough as it appears. 4. Such government officials are entering into the government service through PSC examinations or such processes. And political nominees get their entry based on their comparative merits in their party and as decided by the party !! 5. It is anyone’s guess that a governing body of temple affairs, constituted through such a process will not really stand the test of merit and competency when compared with a constituted panel of subject experts in the area of temple affairs, spiritual practices, Thantra etc that are part & parcel of Hindu religious life. 6. As an obvious result, temples have become centers of commercial activity and many consider temples as mere establishments for employment. In many temples it is observed that the Priests eyes on devotees who pay higher amount as ‘dakshina’. In many temples, the temple employees behave with rude manners as if the devotees committed a great mistake by visiting the temple. Recently, in Guruvayur temple, a devotee was beaten up by a temple employee. Many might have had several of such ill experiences to cite upon. All this happens because the people who reach at the helm of affairs of temples through the provisions of HR & CE Act do not really posses the HRM skills, respects, protocols etc relevant at the Hindu temples. The administrative bodies are clueless about how to recruit the right people for the right job, how to train them, how to retain them, the importance of means & ways of setting right attitude in the temple staff as well as visiting devotees. All these happens while a large number of scholars and such people knowledgeable in such matters relating to Hindu culture, rituals, Vedas, Upanishads, Thantra etc are not given any opportunity to contribute their wisdom for the well being of the Hindu society that they hail from. 7. In many temples, crores of rupees are received as offerings. Many Hindus believe that such income are not fully and effectively utilized for purpose of the Hindu religious life but it adds to the treasury of the secular government apart from paying the salary of temple staff. At present, there are a lot of transparency concerns. And this happens while many ancient temples are running short of money to maintain themselves in a reasonable status. While other religions are utilizing such fund for their religious affairs such as learning, teaching and propagation of their religious texts, literature, their customs etc, Hindus do not enjoy that freedom to have centers of learning, teaching etc. As a result, majority of Hindus becomes just ‘believers’ without possessing the knowledge they are supposed to have about their culture, religion and religious practices, customs, rituals, literature etc. and its significances. They find it hard to find a facility in their neighborhood for the learning of their relevant religious texts and Samskritam, the language that is the key to treasures of HIndu wisdom. 8. It would do good if government officials & politicians keep away from the administrative affairs of Hindu temples and focus well on their area of activity and excel in that. Government should seek information and intervene if any unlawful activities get reported. 9. Decision making authority & responsibility on temple affairs should be entrusted with a duly constituted, competent body that is populated with the subject experts, Sanyasins from prominent ashrams /mutts, intellectuals and veterans in the Hindu religious & scriptural matters, and principles governing the installation and maintenance of temples. 10. As we know, there are a lot of such people in every state of India who have devoted their time for the pursuit of learning and propagating Hindu scriptures, spiritual practices and its ways and means and so on. But the knowledge of such visionaries are hardly utilized for any policy making, temple related issues etc and the community to which they belong to. 11. A model for temple administration is presented here. We request this model be subjected for debate, correction and implementation by involving intellectuals. 11.1. Based on the geographical considerations, each state may be divided into 3 or four operating zones. For example, to start with the southern most state, Kerala, it may be divided into 3 zones – Southern, Middle and North zones. Then, one IAS officer will be nominated to each zone. as Zonal Devaswam Commissioners (ZDC). The senior most ZDC will be the ‘Chief Devaswam Commissioner’. 11.2. These commissioners will initiate processes to constitute an apex body for administration of Hindu religious and temple affairs preferably with name – ‘Hindu Mandir Seva Prathinidhi Sabha’ (HMSPS). The name shall remain uniform for all the states but with the prefix of the corresponding state name. 11.3. The zonal commissioners shall collect the data of ashrams, mutts, other spiritual/religious institutions, temples, scholarly individuals etc. Then, each institution will be contacted directly and by way of an announcement in the leading media, inviting expression of interest from all religious/cultural entities to join as member of HMSPS by explaining them about the whole plan. There should be stipulated norms for the eligibility. 11.4. All such applicants/nominated persons should undergo a screening process to establish their credibility and caliber before getting inducted into HMSPS. Care must be taken to counsel them well before so that no one gets insulted or misunderstood about the whole process & intentions. 11.5. Such screened & finalized applicants & nominated persons together shall elect one among them as their representative through secret balloting. 11.6. The elected representative and the Chief Devaswam Commissioner shall be the authorized joint signatories of HMSPS. 11.7. Any issue pertaining to the Hindu temples and the society at large shall be debated & decided in HMSPS in a democratic way. 11.8. Norms for recruitment, remuneration, training, etc of staff in each temple shall be decided by the HMSPS. 11.9. An executive officer with staff shall be appointed in each temple by the HMSPS with clearly stating his duties & responsibilities. The size of team and the facilitation shall be governed by the prominence, size and activity of the temple. 11.10 HMSPS shall have zonal offices at a centrally located town. All the accounts shall be subjected for a third party audit and published every year. 11.11. With the implementation of this system after thorough debate at various forums and in a time bound manner, the present system of secular governments involving in temple affairs could be scrapped at the earliest. 11.12. HMSPS should facilitate centers for the learning (Pata Shala) of Samskritam language, Vedic Mathematics, The Chathur Vedas, Upanishads, Jyothisham, Vasthu Shasthra, Gemology, Vegetarian cookery, Basic customs & procedures of pooja, Environmental preservation, meaning & significance of the customs and rituals, science behind temple etc etc as prescribed by the religious and spiritual masters of Hindu Dharma. This would ensure that ignorant citizen will not get cheated by fraudsters and also to avoid Hindu religious becoming a center stage for the so called secularism drama. 11.13. Whenever situations demands and if required, the Minister of cultural affairs will act based on the inputs from the HMSPS and never directly. 11.14 The secular government should intervene in the religious affairs when and only when unlawful and anti constitutional activities are reported. We humbly request you to treat this request with top priority as the efficient existence of Hindu Dharmic life would directly trigger the effective prevalence of secularism in India. We humbly request the government to subject the concept of creation of such a representative council for a national debate by scholarly people and enact a new suitable law at the earliest and help Hindus to know Hindu Dharma and its basics at least. Hindus wish to learn Hindu Dharma in an authentic way. Mechanical engineering is handled by Mechanical engineers. Cardiology is handled by Cardiologists and Nuclear science is handled by nuclear scientists so as to have good results for the efforts. It would be disastrous if such technological establishments are controlled by irrelevant people. Similarly Hindu temple affairs are to be handled by people who have expertise in the relevant sciences, physiology and psychology pertaining to temples or else it would lead to undesirable effects to the society as we have been witnessing so far and at present. So, a change for betterment is essential. We are hopeful in the present Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji. Sir, we humbly request you to do the needful to ensure natural justice and equality for Hindus along with the followers of other religions as assured by the Constitution of India.

Take the badge of the officer who abused K9, Zuul
A recent video surfaced of a police K9, 4 year old Zuul, working for the Salisbury PD being abused by an unnamed officer. There is absolutely no context needed for anyone to clearly see the abuse this dog is being forced to take at the hands of the K9's partner. In the recording, you can see the dog jump out of the police vehicle attempting to follow his partner and immediately goes into a down stay when the officer yells at him. In the video, you can hear a voice say "We're good, no witnesses." Before the following ensues. The officer then walks toward the dog and wrestles him into a leash. He then uses the leash to forcefully lift him off the ground and sling him over his back, hanging him by his collar, before walking towards the police vehicle. The next part is a quote from the New York Times: "The officer slams the dog against the side of the car before pushing him inside. He yells “Stay!” before raising his hand and striking the dog. “Is your camera on?” a second off-camera voice asks. “Ah, no, my power’s off,” the person who appears to be recording says." The dog is continuing to work with this police department, although the unnamed officer will no longer be working with Zuul. It is very clear by the conversation heard in the background that there are other members of the police department who are in on the abuse. This is not an isolated incident given how nonchalant the bystanders are and how fast the officer was to abuse Zuul. If this is how the Salisbury police department treats their own K9 partners, how do they treat their suspects when there are no witnesses? Take these monsters' badges away and stop them from hurting any dogs, people, and whoever else has been/will be a victim to their hands. These officers are not protecting and serving anyone.
